Beginning of the end for Putin imho. They might very well take Kyiv and soon. But they’ll be fighting for years. NATO borders are gonna be more heavily defended than ever before and the Russian public will grow more pissed by the day as sanctions take hold. I’m already pleasantly surprised at thousands of the public protesting. Knackers the size of King Kong.

Maniacs are difficult to deter. If that were not the case having the death penalty would end serious crime. If NATO responded with nuclear strikes and China got involved as well it would be centuries before anyone could learn the lesson and western civilisation would be as much a thing of the past as the Roman Empire.

They’re playing to the domestic market. They know nobody believes them but they’re hoping enough Russian people do that they don’t cause a fuss. The Russians anti war demonstrations will hopefully increase and put pressure on Putin and his cabal as that’s the only way I can see this ending on a relatively long term basis otherwise where does it stop?

Well they have been planting seeds of doubt regarding "freedoms" and the conspiracies regarding covid and various other nonsense, they paid for Brexit and this has emboldened them to just start saying any old bollocks because they think they can get away with it.

If by functioning you mean swathes of the country who have close to 100% unemployment and live in abject poverty.
