Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Reading about Zelensky being top target and his family being 2nd. Madness. Poor bloke.
I can completely understand his going down with the ship attitude but he needs to get his family to safety even if he chooses to stay behind. Putin will certainly be going after him and them. He doesn’t want a pro western bloke in charge end of.

It's easy to fall into the trap of ignoring very real problems by writing off uncomfortable truths as Russian propaganda.

Far right nationalism is real in Ukraine, and elsewhere in Eastern Europe too. Even commentators in The Atlantic and Foreign Policy, significant US think tanks sponsors, who originally dismissed any influence in Ukraine re-assessed their opinions and flagged it up as an issue.

In realpolitik, people have to make uneasy alliances and we need to consider ramifications down the line. That's difficult to do when the heat is on because most people are too keen to have a side to root for and become blind to anything else.
Some weapons grade cognitive dissonance here.

In Ukraine, Svoboda have one seat in parliament. One f***ing seat.

Meanwhile, Russia is run by a nationalist dictatorship.

Which one has the problem with nationalism?

The simple fact in my opinion is, Putin won't give up, he won't recognise defeat and won't want to lose face and retreat. The Ukrainians won't give up and as others said yesterday, they probably know they're going down, but they will make it as difficult as possible. Fair fucks to them.

Russian Foreign Minister spouting horrendous propaganda bullshit about how they want to install an independent government that is free of Nazi control. Christ

Is that confirmed? Meaning not the fact that its been shot down. But that it's a Russian jet that was destroyed? Either way its absolutely harrowing footage mind, this is full scale warfare that i'd never thought i'd see.

Apparently some of the footage out there is old stuff from Russian's in Syria etc.

This is what I was concerned about. There's a lot of older/fake footage flying about (pardon the pun)
Whether it’s fake or not the description actually says it’s a Ukrainian plane being shot down by a Russian.

If Russian threats to use nuclear weapons stop us taking actions then presumably NATO’s nuclear weapons are useless. I’ve always thought that using our nuclear weapons if we were the victims of a nuclear attack would be a bad thing to do - why kill millions of other people when it won’t help you? I’ve rather changed my mind after Putin’s threats. It would be worth it as a deterrent to any future maniac to see what retaliation could mean for their future.

I've already said, stop the sabre rattling and make sure his troops kept to the promises of the peace keeping arrangement. If you can tell me how pouring fuel on a fire is a successful strategy for peace. I'm intrigued to know it.
There is no “peace keeping arrangement” as without Russian invasion there is no threat to peace.

The quickest way to peace now is for all Russian forces to leave all of Ukraine and let the country make its own independent decisions.

Your post is illogical.

Ukraine have proposed a neutrality pledge & Kremlin are apparently mulling it.

That would make total sense & smart move by Ukraine. Finland did very well in cold war by intelligent use of that.

Maybe a win win there.

1. Stops fighting.
2. Putin says he achieved goal.
3. Ukraine come out with huge respect.

This definitely on the table?

Seems a sensible resolution.

And here's more now from Sergei Lavrov's news conference in Moscow.

He questions the stability of the Ukrainian state - and accuses Western nations of deliberately militarising the country.

Lavrov told reporters that Ukrainian people must now have the chance to "choose their own future".
Erm, I think thats exactly what they want you absolute wanksock
