They're a partner of NATO. Syria or Afghanistan isn't part of NATO either but NATO got involved there.

Should mention Bosnia also.
No it didn’t, NATO members might of done but they did it in isolation or as part of a coalition not on direction of nato

im surprised we’re still having discussions about nato

Woke up to what I hopef I wouldnt; rockets hitting Kyiv itself. This os hoping to get so much worse over the next day or two.

This has been the good outcome ... As sad as it sounds. The main juggernaut force were expected to reach Kyiv overnight but Ukrainians have made a right nuisance of themselves picking small skirmishes with them and destroying all the routes to Kyiv so they're having to drive around

Only 20 miles off according to both Ukraine and America so it's gonna get worse from here.

He is. Particularly Swift. The west needs to completely cut all ties with Russia, regardless of economic consequences. It’s immoral to always be chasing the £€$
I think completely isolating Russia has risks, desperate nations behave desperately but it’s really the only non- military option. It will, unfortunately, further damage our economy but that is a burden we will simply have to shoulder. Not doing so is not only unethical but also only likely to increase the risk of military intervention being needed further down the line.

If it gets into building to building fighting it will be incredibly brutal.

This hurts, getting told to go to bed by someone who bragged about the argument he had with a former Sunderland striker on the he radio and a fan of Kremlin funded Farage is hilarious.
Using your logic all Corbyn voters/fans are IRA supporters and anti Semites. Fair enough. Also what on earth is me having a debate with a former footballer got to do with the Ukraine/Russia is bizarre. In fact it's embarrassing

Would anyone put it past Putin if he’s sustaining losses and feeling the pain of sanctions from the west, to use nuclear bombs or WOMD to get his point over?

I always knew the Russians were a bit mad but didn’t mind them especially, they helped defeat ISIS in Syria which was a positive (albeit to keep Assad in power). But this shit has taken Putin to a whole new level. He is literally a pariah. Fuck him and fuck Russia.
You’re right with the ‘fuck him’ but not Russia. I reckon one of the best ways ordinary folk can help is by showing support to the Russian people as well as the Ukrainians….it’s clear the Russian people don’t support this war, the Russian soldiers don’t support the war….for too long we’ve had the term ‘the Russians’ used in a derogatory manner when the reality is your average Russian is a canny lad or lass, just the same as us. Fuck putin and the regime but Haway the Russian people.

This is the easiest part for Russia in my opinion. Putting their superior ranged and air support to use. Most of the defensive weapons we have supplied have been short range defensive.

Remember Putin had to go in as hard as he could for shock and awe. This is his blitzkrieg. This is the easy part for him and his army

It will be another kettle of fish when the bombing stops. When he has to engage in close range urban warfare. Where Ukraine has been supplied with a lot of anti-tank and defensive tech. Plus a fighter in every nook and cranny and every vantage point. If Ukraine haven't given up at this point, Putin will find it hard.

The least nations can do to assist is to ensure they have the technology and arms.. make sure the Ukrainian troops are well fed etc.. the resources are there from Europe and America to do that

This will drag for a while . It isn't going to be over in a week or two
Think biggest thing we can do is open refugee routes….apparently the U.K. has fucked up on that already and not done it

tbf Russian people have had enough time to get their act together over the years and stand up to Putin, but they've not done it.

Oh bollocks you idiot, mass protest last night and there’s 1700 arrests in front of a watching world. What do you think it’s like when the world isn’t watching? Those protests were monumental, a major stand in the face of the regime. If you don’t understand how big a deal they were I’d suggest you learn a bit more about the regime there.

An example, I was talking to a Russian woman online a few years back, I asked her about putin. Immediately she stopped the conversation saying she can’t mention him or the gov as emails are checked and she’d get into trouble. That’s how bad it is, so to take to the streets knowing the potential consequences is a massive thing.

From what direction? The north?

If it is that's bad news. Russia have built a pontoon in the north which gives a quick route to Kyiv avoiding major built up areas.

A little closer and that brings in the possibility of artillery :(

Russia is a highly nationalistic country and whilst Putin has some visible opposition amongst the more liberal urban populations, he otherwise has a lot of legitimate support.

It's like a MAGA thing.
Tbf to him, over the years he has done a relatively good job in keeping such a huge nation functioning and garnered a lot of support, from what I understand that’s wavered over the last few years though.
