Latest boxing crack

Only initially, it can still make it yet as not all sports have been announced. Boxing needs to clean up its game but they can get fucked if they think I'll be watching Breakdancing and beat boxing at the Olympics opposed to boxing and weight lifting.
Boxing due to corrupt judging apparently. They can be re-admitted if they can prove they've fixed that issue.
I can't see them changing anytime soon they've had warnings for years and haven't done anything. Boxing is probably in the same position as weightlifting, where the old guard are just clinging on and would rather pull it all down instead of just f##king off.

Talk of Fury vs Whyte in Cardiff in April, 80,000 seats i’ll be surprised if it sells more than 35,000 ! Franks gonna take some loss on the fight

I'm shocked they haven't gone to the middle east to get a massive site fee tbh. Fury must be a big draw out there as the "real" HW champ?

Still, it'll surely sell 80k tickets. tbh, I'd be tempted myself.

Assuming it will be at daft o'clock for the US Market?
No mate assuming its normal time for UK fans, I think Fury's popularity in the US has been overstated and taking that he's not fighting Wilder our any American then how much interest would there be from America really !!? And I don't see Whyte as a big seller really, look at his purses and PPV buys they aren't massive

Potential deal with BT fell through.

There's plenty I like about him (considering his occupation), but plenty that is dislikable as well. Doesn't have the same history of non-payment as another prominent UK promoter though, so I dislike him a bit less.
A lot of the boxers seem to like him which probably says a lot. I don't mind him like. Doesn't seem to take himself to seriously.

Matchroom will be fine even if this goes to the swanny. They are great at promoting fights and catering them to casual audiences, are a professional outfit and well known with plenty money so they I'll pick something else up at somepoint.

This venture was ill judged though and some of it is their own faults. They misjudged two of their biggest markets in the US and UK basically by underestimating how much of a hold their competitors have on the main sports that draw audiences and they aren't just going to let someone come and take that away.

In the UK Hearn has caused some of the problems for himself. When riding high on sky he took the hardcore fans for granted and now he needs them to prop up subscriptions they aren't getting on board. Everyone's seen how he pumped up PPV prices, made cards not worthy of PPV, started putting on terrible cards in the subscription channel to boost PPV. It's a business, I get it, but you treat your core audience with that much disdain then dobe be surprised when they pull the plug.

He also purposefully cut out the small hall circuit because it didn't generate big profits. That's fair enough but the mall hall is crucial in bring through hometown fighters and building them a fanbase in which they can build onto mainstream stars from. Look at the state of the prospects now, none have fans, eople don't know who any are and they barely fight cause they can't shift tickets. The over reliance on Olympians will crash down as well if they do happen to be booted out.

He's also underestimated how much cross promotion means to the sport. On Sky you can advertise to the mass amounts of football fans, they don't see that advertising on a barely noticeable internet streaming service.

Covid obviously hasn't helped and the sport is a mess anyway with problems that have been around for decades however his timing on this couldn't have been worse and it's quite amusing that old dog Warren has been able to scrap on by and potentially rise to the top again. 🤣

Spot on, sky's power meant they could get fighters paraded round huge football grounds to hype fight. Press conferences, weigh ins live on fairly mainstream channels in SSN and possibly even sky news

Bravo, superb summary.

PPV in the US costs 2-3 times more than here and they have numerous subscription networks so it makes sense for a streaming service like DAZN with a flat monthly fee. But we only have one major broadcaster (two including BT but Sky is the major player), so an additional subscription is asking a lot, especially when a good chunk of the content is broadcast in the middle of the night.

Thought the Matchroom model of having their own production teams when they moved to DAZN was excellent but counts for little without subscribers.

Overall I think Matchroom have done a lot of good things for boxing. Hearn has done what his Dad did for darts - they've taken those smaller shows and upscaled them, showcasing a small core group of boxers in easy, one sided fights to attract groups of LADs who want to get pissed, sing Sweet Caroline and see a knockout. But his focus for the last few years has been on cracking America and expanding his own and Matchroom's brand imo. He made the mistake of thinking people tuned in specifically to watch his shows when actually they tune in because they already have Sky and want to watch boxing.

Seen the latest from AJ, saying he'll beat Usyk with or without a trainer ..... think the smacks to the head from Wlad and Ruiz did some Rocky 5 kinda damage like

Talk of Fury vs Whyte in Cardiff in April, 80,000 seats i’ll be surprised if it sells more than 35,000 ! Franks gonna take some loss on the fight
Ooh you’d love that...sad fucker 😃

fights been made and still whining.
What we thinking on the Eubank fight then? I can see Williams causing him plenty of problems like.....but think Eubank wins on points. Should be a decent fight imo.
It’s a cracking fight, cracking few weeks on sky boxing like.

going Eubank possibly a late late stoppage with Williams on his feet. Brilliant matchmaking.

Looks like boxing has been left out of the 2028 Olympics along with weightlifting. Cant say I'm surprised.
it’ll be back in like Marra, can’t see it actually happening, maybe im naive like...it’s a core sport of the olympics.
Interesting to see what happens with DAZN now...
I may cancel my subs like, nowt to look forward too, I’ve think I’ve watched 3/4 fights in my time...

but then it will show a canelo fight or some shit and I’ll sign up again. Ffs.
I'm not, tyson will win easily imo
worried he may go all beserker again with whyte who can punch like....if he boxes he toys with him. Fuck nars what tactics they’ll use.
Surprised your a tad nervous like mate ! Wasn't expecting that !

I know its already been mentioned but how in the world did your uncle frank win that purse bid ?!?!
Top rank cash surely.? But must be backing it anarl like.

What time are we looking at for Eubank/Williams tonight? Out for a family event tonight which would be fine if it starts at a normal time but Boxxer main events have tended to start earlier? Just realised I'm away for Taylor/Catterall as well which I'm gutted about
