I suppose there is that angle of looking at it.Actually, the mixed relays have been an interesting addition. It adds a tactical dimension - do you start with the men and hope to open up a big lead or finish with them?

The order should be a random draw so that we get men v women in some of the legs. They were all generally good. The only one that didn't quite work was the mixed 4x400 track race and that was largely down to scheduling meaning a lot of teams didn't pick their strongest athletes. Tactically, everyone in the final ran a man on leg 1, women on legs 2 and 3 and a man on leg 4 so this clearly wasn't what the complainy poster above watched.
There'll be more mixed events in future - I believe a mixed synchro diving event is going to happen in 2024.
Yeah that was great. The the sprint triathlon was one of the highligths for me
Host nations generally do...Does anyone know if France have put in extra investment in preparation for Paris 2024 to try and win more medals?

Apparently GB last won an archery medal in 2004 but funding has now been increased. Bit baffling really given that it's not even a particularly accessible sport.Must be some rational behind it.. how much did archery get before.. it might have been 1.99 million so a hundred k takes them over..
Have you a link to the funding amounts.
Tbf it all looks out of kilter in places
To be fair if you Google local places quite a few and it is accessible in most ..Apparently GB last won an archery medal in 2004 but funding has now been increased. Bit baffling really given that it's not even a particularly accessible sport.
How GB sports fared in Tokyo relative to their funding
Archery
Funding amount: £1,122,879
Medals: 0
Team GB have not won an Olympic medal in archery since 2004, and that run continued at Tokyo 2020.
Archery was one of several sports to lose its funding after the Rio Games five years ago, before UK Sport U-turned in 2018 and decided to reinstate financial support.
It has had its funding hugely increased for the Paris 2024 Olympic cycle, however, to more than £2.1m.
I fancy going to watch the sport climbing.Paris could be like another home Olympics for GB.
I reckon loads will travel over there.
If you're based in London it may even be possible to go on the Eurostar for the day for some events.
Athletics is probably more accessible but has had funding reduced. To be fair if you Google local places quite a few and it is accessible in most ..
A lot of that money will drive some grass roots development .
I don't know if that is the case at all. Cos two million isn't cheap for only a couple medals contested .Athletics is probably more accessible but has had funding reduced.
Just looks like we're chasing cheap golds by avoiding sports like athletics were more nations compete.
The order should be a random draw so that we get men v women in some of the legs.
Swimming was the best as it had men v women in different strokes so the gaps kept changing keeping you interested as 4 or 5 countries were in full contention even if they were 20m behind.
Mixed relay when the strokes are drawn at random is fun, people forget what they're supposed to doYes, the swimming implementation of the mixed relays was especially well done.
Not sure about a random order. You wouldn't do that in the single sex relays.
Brilliant to equal 65 medals from 2012 and an almost perfect spread of gold, silver & bronze 22 21 22.
Just read that, what a tragic story. 24 yr old, Olympic athlete, from the outside you would think they have it all. I can't even begin to comprehend the pressure & stress they must be under at times. RIP & thoughts to the family.Horrible news coming out of New Zealand about the sudden death of cyclist Olivia Podmore who failed to make the NZ team at the Olympics this time round.
The pressure on these athletes is something most of us will never come close to experiencing. RIP Olivia and condolences to her family & friends.

really good point. It might be worth thinking about going there for it.Paris could be like another home Olympics for GB.

Honestly can't see how there's 4 ways to swim, but you can race with any of them on their own.Mixed relay when the strokes are drawn at random is fun, people forget what they're supposed to do
You can do that to almost any event though, walking, hurdles, steeplechase, different weights in boxing judo etc.Honestly can't see how there's 4 ways to swim, but you can race with any of them on their own.
Why not have the 100m hopping, skipping and running backwards races on the track then?
Who's the fastest swimmer at X-Distance is all you need. Swim however you want.
