~~Tokyo Olympics 2020/21~~

Anything else to play for today or is that it?

Been one of my favourite Olympics this. The timings and WFH have worked a treat and there's been some great stories to be had. My eyes are sore.
It has been excellent, mind. Real shame about the lack of crowds, but such is life.

Roll on Paris.
Part of a big crash round two so only scrored 16 points..

Fucked up in the elimination race which pretty much fucked it for her..

Won the other two events out of the four
She said she was tired in the elimination race and as soon as she started she had nothing in the tank.

I’m really going to miss waking up early and just watching as much as I can. I always seem to forget just how much I love the Olympics.

My top 3 highlights.

winning gold in swimming mixed relay
galal yafai winning gold
Jason Kenny winning 7th

roll on Paris

2012 - 29
2016 - 27
2020 - 20*

Clearly there's gradual decline from 2012 which was always going to happen, 20 golds is still outstanding without ANY Track & Field golds, but there is a slow decline and I presume they'll fall into 10-15 gold range eventually. Could be wrong but I think expecting 20+ from here on in is going a lot to ask.

Athletics is huge concern.
I agree, although when Asher smith went out of 100m I seriously thought we could leave without a single individual medal.

I’m reality we have genuine medal contenders in Asher Smith, KJT, Bradshaw, Reekie, Hodgkinson, Muir and Kerr.

I was really disappointed with the men’s 800m. I thought Giles and Rowden would at least make the final. But we have 2 or 3 youngsters coming through in that event to compete with them.

Weightman was disappointing in the 1500 final too.

I wonder if there will be a bit of an inquest anyway - so many injuries, even before you talk about the false starts in the 100m.

Athletics is probably the hardest sport to win golds as there is so much competition and there is little advantage to be gained from spending a lot of money on advanced equipment.

GB athletics should do better in Paris, just this Olympic cycle saw some previous big names retire and others not quite ready.
