Lack of transfers concerning?

They are one interpretation of the facts certainly.

You could just as easily have said:

Enthusiastic, billionaire owner (x3 if you're just looking at board/directors) ..... in League One
Young, hungry, and respected backroom staff, DoF, etc. recruited from teams higher in the pyramid than us, rather than from Oxford and Eastleigh
High calibre boardroom in place (certainly compared to what we've endured for the last decade)
Investment in recruitment, data analysis, etc. suitable for a club much higher than we are currently
A squad ripe for a much needed and long overdue overhaul, and truth be told none of us will miss Wyke :lol:

Unproven manager, but let's see how he does.

I'm not saying everything is rosey, but it's certainly not all a disaster either.
You're right of course, and they need time, however we've been here before, we think we're making progress and their plans are ambitious, but we are yet to see any fruits of their labour.

- We ended the season badly, first failing to go up automatically after fighting back to ensure automatic promotion was ours to lose;
- We crashed out of the playoffs to Lincoln City;
- We have not yet agreed to extend the contracts for the four players we wish to keep;
- We have yet to sign a player when the majority of the clubs in the league have, despite needing more players than most.

Haven't read the thread but what's all this about we won't shell out for software?

As for building our own platform, I actually shudder to think

Someone posted in another thread that they know somebody who runs one of the market leading sports data companies, apparently SAFC got in touch earlier this year and enquired about their software but decided it was too much money.

Do you have much experience of building sports data models like? As I said in my other posts if we're hiring dedicated staff to build it then why not? It's an innovative and challenging field but it's not exactly NASA, if you're good you just need a powerful laptop, python, tableau and some data sets.

Surely the total opposite. New owners here for the long haul who have planned for the players being released and who may replace them.

Typical message board thread every window for every club.

I'm talking more about how it feels in terms of anything happening. Not what we think/hope is going behind the scenes which we aren't party to.

Couple of low key friendly releases on twitter and very little else.

Not sure it is the same as every other club every window either.

Accrington - 1 signing
Bolton - 4 signings
Burton - 4 signings
Cambridge - 2 signings
Charlton - 1 signing
Cheltenham - 1 signing
Crewe - 1 signing
Doncaster - 1 signing
Fleetwood - 1 signing
Gillingham - 4 signings
Ipswich - 3 signings
Lincoln - 1 signing
MK - 2 signings
Morcambe - 1 signing
Oxford - 3 signings
Plymouth - 4 signings
Portsmouth - 1 signing
Rotheram - 0
Sheff Wed - 0

SAFC - on holiday with a rumoured meeting next week to decide what to do. No kits released. Blackout on any news regarding players who were offered contracts a month ago.

Whilst I'm not worried, and fully expect us to be active soon, and signings at this stage don't necessarily have any influence on the quality of players that come in, let's not pretend it's highly unusual for any one to be making signings now.

The point about covering the entire market is that also includes all of the levels we are looking at too, we simply get tailored reports for our needs rather than re-inventing the wheel. It will take time to develop you say, I have no doubt it will.

The market leaders data is available to anybody who coughs up, a lot of teams have cottoned on to this stuff now so the edge you gain is a lot smaller, if we can develop our own tailored model then there's a chance that edge over other teams increases.

Will the data model be ready and perfected this summer or even by January? Most definitely not, but it's better to think long term with that sort of investment.

Okay let's agree that such a long term investment is a good idea assuming we have actually employed folks that know what they're doing, I am guessing it's what Benham has done at Brentford but stats is very much his and his other company's world so it's no surprise how incredibly well he's done at it. What's your understanding of this seasons approach to recruitment, genuine question? So far I have seen us linked to a keeper that is apparently 5' 9" and little else.

The staggering scale of building a software platform though. Presume you'd have to subscribe and buy in the data as you say. I have limited knowledge but I assume the big uns are all off the shelf.

Points based system, a veteran who can put his foot on the ball and spray passes around would be possible, although I guess it's plan B for now. Roll on the football factory.
The veteran, class midfielder is exactly what we need . A division 1 Cambiasso . Only ours would probably arrive broken and play 4 games 🙁

I would imagine this season will still see a much more progressive recruitment strategy, even if we won't have a fully developed model to work with. The past 3 years our whole strategy seemed to basically be whoever TC and his mates knew were available and had played in the championship before.

We should still be able to bring in players who suit the planned style of play and we think have potential, we'll definitely use stats to help this too.

It is quiet at the moment but I think by the start of July as players from all clubs return to pre-season we should start to see some movement, a lot of our targets may be PL loans or others who are contracted with other clubs, unfortunately in those instances you have to play the waiting game before the selling clubs make decisions on what their own plans for these players are.

Party animal right here.You have no idea what is happening but take the slit your wrists option

You're probably right mate but hey this is Sunderland we are talking about, when did they last give us Party Time! If some of us are entrenched in the default position of it's going to be shite again isn't it only tangible evidence to the contrary that will budge us. Like Boris I'm a time served season ticket holder and will be back in August roaring them on.

A convincing start would be persuading O'Nien and Hume to stay, maybe Mcgeady too.
