New Music Releases Thread

Big thief tickets bought this morning, venues getting bigger each time they play
A lot of tours announced recently appear to be in bigger venues than I would have expected - I saw Dropkick Murphys 4 years ago in a 2k capacity venue(Dunfermline Alhambra), I’m seeing them at the Glasgow Hydro next year, which holds 14k!

There are new releases this week from AFI, Alessandro Cortini, Azure Ray, Danny Elfman, Garbage, Islands, Jim Ward, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Mammoth VVH, Marina, Maroon 5, Migos, Sleater-Kinney, The Oak Ridge Boys, Joanna Serat and Andy Bell (the Ride one).
Just listened to the first track of the Garbage album and I swear it’s the same song as that Sinead O’Connor Father Ted song “old men in frocks telling me what to do, but they can’t get pregnant like I do”

There's some interesting content on there. One line I remember is "If I had a dick would you blow me?" Thanks for posing the question Shirley, let me think about it

A decent week for quality, if not quantity. My listening has been:

Alessandro Cortini: filmic electronica. It's very good.
Sons of Raphael: this came out a couple of weeks ago. Very enjoyable psych indie-pop.
Joana Serrat: Spanish singer-songwriter who has recently been based in Texas. This is very accomplished, and very good, Americana.
Sleater-Kinney: their first album as a duo. Really good. The Patti Smith influences are stronger than ever.
Bachelor: as mentioned by @chunkylover53 last week. A very good album of indie rock that goes quite poppy as it moves on.
Ryan Adams: like a lot of his output since New York, I find this a tad dull. All perfectly competent just a bit boring.
Khasi-Cymru Collective: a mix of Welsh folk and Indian folk. Very delicate and quite lovely.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard: a change of direction to something a little less guitar focussed. I like this a lot.

Album if the week: seven of them are good, one not so much. I'm going to say Khasi-Cymru Collective.

Really enjoying this album, gets labelled as R&B because of her background with Diddy but she's mostly moved away from it, very house and synth focused.

Really like the S-K. First listen I immediately liked it more than the last one, and the couple of listens since have reinforced that - good stuff.
Agreed on Bachelor as well - enjoyed it on the whole, but I thought it tailed off a bit toward the end, the last couple of tracks I lost interest a little.
Garbage is growing on me after a few listens - the missus bought it for RSD and we've played it a bit more. Certainly sticking to their formula though.

Not sure if Merge have made a mistake, but I got the new Mountain Goats yesterday afternoon, so I'll be giving that a listen today. I sometimes get preorders the day before release, but a week and a half seems more like a fuck up to me. Odd. Anyway, I'm hoping it's more Pierre Chuvin than Getting Into Knives/In League With Dragons, but I fancy it'll be more the latter, as it's a full band outing, and I've found those tougher going recently.

There are new releases tomorrow from H.E.R., Kings of Convenience, Max Bloom, MNDR, Mykki Blanco, Angelique Kidjo, Andrew Hung, Ethan Gold, Blank Glodd, Mind Maintenance, Francis Lung, Band of Holy Joy and The Catenary Wires.

Seriously though, any recommendations? The only artist I’ve heard of on that list is H.E.R, and that’s only because she was in the Netflix kids film “Yes Day”.

Good question. Kings of Convenience are sort of indie folk-pop from Norway, critically acclaimed, I can find them a bit bland. Mykki Blanco is a transgender rapper. Angelique Kidjo is a Beninese singer, who's been recording for decades. I think this album showcases new African artists. Andrew Hung is the half of Fuck Buttons that isn't Blanck Mass. Ethan Gold is a singer songwriter who has done a lot of soundtrack work. Blank Glodd is actually Blank Gloss (double typo in there), part of the ambient Americana thing that Uncut loves. Mind Maintenanace, I think, are a two piece sort fo jazz-rock-Afrobeat thing. Francis Lung used to be in Wu Lyf (wasn't the singer), is now solo. Band of Holy Joy are veteran sort of indie-folk-punk (but not punk) types lead by Johny Brown, from Whitley Bay, they're a big favourite of mine. The Catenary Wires are indie pop veterans, previously in Tallulah Gosh, Heavenly, Marine Research and Tender Trap. Their new album has got good reviews.

The Heavens by Sebidus.

it’s Alex Patterson of the orb and it’s basically an Orb reckon.
Usual mix of ambience, beats and samples ( with a space theme )
It’s great if that’s your thing.
