6music

Think that's probably the idea, bit of light-heartedness. Breaks it up from the other presenters who put more focus on new artists etc.

The lad who sometimes fills in, John Peel's son - can't get away with him, if only because his voice is absolutely grating.
Tom Ravenscroft? Or something like that. I agree his voice is terrible! “Loving that tune...”, urgh

19 years old today, had no idea it was that old. Best radio station going.
I wouldn't have heard/enjoyed The Fall if it wasn't for 6 music, courtesy of Radcliffe & Maconie when they were on afternoons - best presenters on there. Lauren Laverne's very positive, professional and good crack. Also like Marc Riley if I'm working late, plays stuff I have never heard before, like the other presenters, some good, some not so, but generally good crack regardless. Hobbs tries to be too down with the kids with her patter, she's definitely on the Tim Westwood scale. I got tired of Keaveny's 'poor northern me/I don't know what I'm doing' routine. Still 6 is the only station I bother putting on, I suppose there will be good shows elsewhere but cannot stomach commercial 'ad' infested radio.

pleased it was Maconie who was a cock and not Radcliffe

still enjoy Steve Lamacq , Lard's programme is great, Tom Robinson as well, Saturday is perfect RadMac, Huey, football while Kershaw and Peterson are on, crack a beer in time for Craig Charles

have never emjoyed Shaun Keavaney, reminds me of the zany days of Radio One

haven't even mentioned the next Mrs Sandboy on a morning, she can do no wrong
Forgot about Liz Kershaw, her voice grated on me initially but she's actually a really nice friendly listen.

Keaveny is a legend in his own head.

I like most of the DJ's on there but can't get away with MA Hobbs and Shaun 'onions' Keveney, which is a shame when working from home.

SK is completely out of kilter with all the rest to me, he's closer to Steve Wright and Tony Blackburn than the rest of 6Music

like that small claims court pish that was just on... who gives a shit ?

I can forgive him that as the music played, generally, is more my thing than the stuff Laverne and Hobbs play. I find errr Steve err Lamaqc errrrrr irritating but the music is key.

Only Mary Ann hobnobs I can’t get away with, keaveny is class. Even warming to sicknote on the breakfast show.

I think he’s great ‘that’s gorgeous’...Plays some great music as well.

mostly listen to:

Tom ravenscroft
Giles peterson
The Huey show
or the recommendation shows. I tend not to listen live and just play the shows when I get a chance to catch up.

Also quite like Aime Lame, Guy Garvey and Lauren Laverne. Can’t get away with Cerys matthews, Liz Kershaw or Stuart Marconie.

That's him. Refers to himself as 'Rave Dog' aswell.

MLF Jeff Brown from BBC Look North called into 'small claims court' a few weeks ago!

I think she tries too hard to be diverse and different.

Don't mind the station but I find people who listen to it to be jammed firmly up thier own arse
All of them?

Missed that - Ive sent in the odd e-mail to RadMac and Keavney and got the odd shout out.

theres always people from Sunlun getting mentioned - it used to be a proper Manc NW fest - but Lauren makes sure listeners and our local bands get mentioned as much as possible

To be honest, now I've thought about it a few of the dj's get on my tits.

Tom Ravenscroft - Only gets the gig because he's John Peel's son. Says things like 'Rad' and 'Far Out' in a nerdy, weedy voice and pretends to be into jungle music to be cool.
Shaun Keaveney - Puerile, cringe worthy humour which he repeats over and over again.
Steve Lamacque - Bangs on about The Idols, Fontaines DC ad infinitum with an irritating accent. I get the impresssion he has a big say in the playlist for the channel.
Mary Ann Hobbs - The less said the better. Despite awful floaty voice, thinks playing nightclub trance dance sessions at 11am is acceptable, then reads out dubious 'Tweets from listeners' saying how amazing it is.

All of them?

mostly the people who text in with their twee, obscure, hipster song requests and gig anecdotes

i always think they secretly love going down to cooper rose style pubs on a saturday night and belting out sweet caroline and the steps megamix, when no one is watching. like a stuck up fine dining connoisseur secretly parked in mcdonalds car park shoving a bigmac into their face

also i find it a little nauseating how the djs never, ever, don't like a new song. clearly its a big step by an up and coming artist to get on the 6music playlist, but loads of those songs are clearly shit

dont get me wrong, its the best radio station going

whats the set up with 'the playlist' ? you hear the same songs over and over for a week then they disappear, its not like each dj has been out researching and listening to loads of un-heard-of bands and brings their songs to the radio for a spin. there must be some sort of commercial/marketting/record label deal type set up behind the scenes somewhere

i imagine it to be a very exclusive club at the station. like if your not 'in' , then no one would want to know you

Doesn’t each DJ pull together their own playlist and then combine it into a single playlist?
