Aiden Mcgeady



Don’t think they did anything special to nullify him to be honest. He just looked very leggy yesterday. That half a step is crucial for him and he didn’t have it for most of the game. But even playing 6 or 7 out of 10 the lad has only to create a bit of magic once or twice and he’s a match winner.
 
I'll admit I was happy to see him leave - but only based on the fact that he was apparently bullying people so badly they were ready to put in a transfer request. I don't think anyone should be allowed to get away with that, regardless of if they're our best player.

Now either that was untrue, or it's been dealt with, which is good and we're reaping the benefits now.

Although I notice Maguire seems to be getting the same treatment now, which is ironic because we all know like Mcgeady he can be a big player for us. I wonder how many people giving him stick are posting in here slamming people for giving Mcgeady stick.

This place is toxic as fuck and full of absolute weapons.

At the time he was sacked I think everyone felt it was the right thing to do and the standard of the football on offer was the main driver. Again results wise even this season his record is just about identical to Johnsons and we are 5th and his results with us after his horrible 8 game start were very close to automatic promotion, if not automatic promotion. That 5th this season is as much down to the 23 points from 13 games as it is from Johnsons 27 in 15, they just go about things in different ways and Johnson has a more positive mindset which I think Sunderland fans need. However there is much more to look forward to now and the feeling is we can only improve when under Parkinson we weren't going to get any better. Parkinson was dull, fell short of what we need but he wasn't the absolute catastrophe people like to paint.

Pretty comprehensive that mind :cool:, he was poor at the club and failed but that's life look at Moyes at West Ham atm, doesn't take away from the trainwreck he left at SOL ;)
 
Nearly worth watching Sunderland play for McGeady alone.

Genuinely excited to watch him play, lovely dinks into the box, tricks out on the wing and beating his man, long range efforts full power, sexy passes.

Maguire is still getting game time. Not a bad word has been said from Johnson. 🤷‍♂️

I have always been a fan. There has been some shite written about him which seems to have been exaggerated or non existent but people desperate for an answer to our dreadful football thought it had to be the most gifted footballer we have got. Even the golden arches "disgrace" proved to revolve around the selective vision of social media. Parkinson was dishonest in how he dealt with him in his mumbled communications with fans. McGeady's attitude out of the team was exemplary and in the team he is making a big difference, with a team set up to support the forward(s) meaning he has options in and around the box which was often not the case under Parkinson. For me he has always had a bit in the bank when things haven't gone so well, nobody is on their game in every match. It is good to see a player, with all of his experience, playing with a massive smile on his face, he clearly loves the game.

I am pleased those who doubted him can now see what he brings to the team.

I don't know what I feel about Johnson yet, but he is at least prepared to make substitutions with time to change games. Parkinson's main variation was bringing Graham on for a marooned Wyke, to see us through injury time. He is not an aspirational manager and his attitude was wrong for us. We are well rid and it will hopefully give him a chance to get over the Long Covid he invented before it existed because he never looked well.

It wasn't all made up at all. These things happened and people need go accept that. The good thing is he now seems totally on board, grafting and enjoying his football. It's great to see.

Nothing I'd be willing to put in an open forum, but yeah. I know people in the youth team who said how much of a twat he was.

On the flip side, the very same people now say he's been great around the place, so maybe he was just being managed badly and was kicking out.

Either way, what's gone is gone. Right now he's doing the business and its fantastic for us. The biggest thing for me is the graft he's putting in. The daft tackle he made thst resulted in a yellow card was the perfect example of that...poorly executed, but he was busting a gut to get there.
