Cutting the Grass

Spent a lot of time getting moss out and scarifying the lawn this time last year.
It's survived winter much better this year but still so.e in it. Give it a dose of the seaweed based mosskiller spray a week or so ago and it's blackened it off nicely and can see new shhots of grass growing through. With the warmer weather coming this week I'll let it have a while longer then give it a mow on highest setting and then scarify again.
It's reassuring to know I'm starting from a much better baseline this year and hopefully will have a lush lawn from early spring onwards.

Creeping Charlie is still there but much less so I'll give that an early spray this year to weaken it off from the start and see if the stronger grass can stand it out.
That link on the lawnsmith website earlier gives a really good guide as to what is best to do each month.

IIRC, I ballsed mine up last night, and it led to other issues through the year.

Anyone on the lookout for an electric scarifier/rake, keep an eye on the aldi and lidl special buys.
I bought one from aldi about 4 years ago, gardenline I think the brand is. They were originally £60, but were reduced to £29.99. I think they reduce them after 3 weeks on sale, though may be 4.
I use it to scarify twice a year and still works perfect. Couldnt believe how much crap it took out the lawn.

:lol::lol:
And one of those light boxes the scratters have.

No idea what a "light box" is but I'm sure the planet can cope with my 15 sq m of patchy weeds - which was mainly used as a toilet for the neighbours' pets - being replaced by something more useful and easier to maintain. I'm sure a well manicured natural lawn is a thing of beauty but the ground conditions of many new build estates make them impossible to look after.

Lazy get.

True that. When they make new estates they just Chuck the rubbish in the garden and hot some seed now. Shocking conditions of some.

I bought a 3m strip of council land, and rotavated 5m of it. Took about 12 ruble sacks of crap out. Couldn't believe it.
I assume the actual garden that's close to the house will be much worse

I've got a Bosch scarifier I’ve had years , one width of a small lawn and the catch box is full , it’s tedious having to empty it all the time.

Couldn't believe the amount of building junk which came up when I had the old lawn dug up. No wonder the patch of grass had been so hard to look after.

I have been getting rid of any small patches of moss over the Winter.
Have to say it’s looking in decent shape and by early April ready to plant new grass seed on a few of the patches.
Better condition than our pitch.
