It's not its relevant. All I am saying is that if other key workers did this then the country would grind to a halt. My daughters school is closed tomorrow to even key workers so that's the wife not able to attend work tomorrow.
Added to that the children have missed an awful lot of school last year and to miss even more is criminal
of course it's irrelevant. you can't just pick and chose who you compare teachers to. coppers/nurses/supermarket workers are in, so why aren't teachers. why not barbers? why not open the pubs? why aren't gyms open, if hospitals and supermarkets are open, then why aren't cinemas and restaurants?
each case needs its own risk assessment. can society function without cinemas and pubs? aye. can society function without hospitals, police and and a food supply? no
can this country cope for 2 weeks with the schools shut? aye. is the risk v reward going to be worth the inconvenience of that? in my opinion, aye it is.
but what the rest of the country is doing is irrelevant when it comes whether each individual place is open. each case is individual.
i work in construction and was furloughed for 3 weeks in april, and other than that i've not been off at all, and every building site is open and in full swing. why not just close all building sites and non-essential manufacturing? if the teachers are having 2 weeks off, then by your logic, sites and factories should be off for 2 weeks.
and, a big point that seems to be overlooked, the teachers aren't going to be 'off'. they are going to be teaching from home.
this whole problem is the sole responsibility of the government. and it has been purposely manipulated into this scenario, to make as many members of the public as possible blame teachers and schools
