New Music Releases Thread

I guess I've been listening to a lot of physical music in lockdown (vinyl purchases have been out of control) whereas I used to listen to Spotify more when I was at work. Measly 12000 hours here - poor!

Follow that mate, gives you top 100 songs and top 5 artists.
Oh right. I knew about the playlist because it shows on my “Play Now” section anyway but because I only listen to albums it’s like 100 songs made up of chunks of albums.

My top 5 artists this year are
AJJ
Gizzard
Johnny Cash
Justin Townes Earle
Pokey Lafarge

I’m quite shocked that I’ve listened to 10 hours more AJJ than Gizzard and surprised that Pokey made my top 5.

Also, apparently, Supersuckers is my 2nd most listened to album of the year after AJJ
.
I’ve listened to 350 different artists this year apparently too. I don’t think it only starts half way through the year because most of my AJJ plays were at the start of the year when I got tickets for the (now cancelled) summer tour.

There are still some new albums arriving. This week they come from Arctic Monkeys (live), Calexico (a Christmas album), Dark Mark (Mark Lanegan does Christmas), Deafheaven (live), Joan of Arc (their final album), Kass Richards, Lost Horizons, Rico Nasty, Shawn Mendes, Sigur ros (live, I think), The Hamrahlid Choir, White Stripes (Greatest Hits), Yungblud, The Wedding Present & Friends, Alex Maas, Laura Groves and Nicholas Lens & Nick Cave.

20995 minutes for me.

Top artists:
1) Purple Mountains
2) Fontaine’s D.C
3) Ist Ist
4) James Dean Bradfield
5) Dan Deacon

I often wonder how accurate these lists are because I’m certain Sei Still should be in my top 5. It also reckons the 1970’s was my top decade. I listened to a lot of Pink Floyd this year but that’s just categorically wrong.

Nothing particularly exciting there, clearly it’s December - Live albums and Greatest Hits. The Mahones have yet another Best Of out tomorrow as well (for their 30th anniversary), they’ve only released one (poor by their standards) studio album and a covers album since their last “Best of” so not sure what the benefit of it is.

Don’t think I fancy a Mark Lanegan Christmas album or Nick Cave’s collab with a dude that does contemporary operas but might stick them on if I’m bored.

In non-record news the new Shane McGowan documentary which was part funded/produced by Johnny Depp is out tomorrow so I’ll probably persuade Mrs Dundee to watch that with me on Saturday night.

Reminds me of my mates long past band who went by Joan of Arse
Their one album was produced by Steve Albini.
Love this tune

Not much there for me. Big Wedding Present fan but that’s a Bond themes album rather than new stuff

It's one I'm kind of looking forward to. Lanegan and Calexico also and the Sigur Ros live album, which seems to be an orchestral thing they did at the Barbican in the early 2000s.

Edit: Alex Maas is the singer from The Black Angels so his album could interest some people.
