New Music Releases Thread

So far I’m really enjoying the new Gizzard. Nowhere near their best but solid. Much like the single it’s like a cross between Microtonal Banana and Dream Baloon. The live album isn’t as good as Chunky Shrapnel but it was enjoyable, and it’s always good to hear a couple of songs from albums I’ve not listened to for a while.

Not a big fan of the Larkin Poe covers album on first listen.

Ghostlawns - Motorik

I missed this debut release a couple of weeks back but Steve Lamacq played a track from it the other day and it was great.
Young band from Cardiff and the album title tells you what it’s like.

if you liked Working Men’s Club you may like this. It’s great imo

Debut album by Mamalarky is interesting. No idea what the genre is - I suppose, loosely, indie, but it's all over the shop with experimental vibes. Some 60s art house sounds, some jazz, some noise, some jangle. Kept me engaged enough to wonder where it was going next.

Cabaret Voltaire - Shadow of Fear.

first album in donkeys from a true pioneering group. Effectively though it’s a Richard H Kirk album without Stephen Mallinder.
on first listen it’s great if you like electronic / industrial stuff.

Got it on at the moment Good stuff - I listen to this kind of thing all the time when I'm working, it's ideal. The missus says she feels like she's back at the Limelight (NYC) in the 90s  - she likes her industrial. Just gave Ghostlawns a go as well - liked it

Gabriels due to release an EP in 4th December. Know little of them but quite enjoying this and hopefully a taste of what’s to come:

Sorry if seb
Also quite enjoying Sankofa Season by Andrew Ashong and Kaidi Tatham

Yeah, the track that you posted is really disco. Ace production. The other tracks I’ve listened to are quite soulful. Remind me when the Ep is released please mate, I’ve followed on Spotify but it can be a big hit and miss.

If you like that you may Like Seba Kaapstad - recent album release Konke. A bit more soul / R’n’b.

Right, let's see whether me being next to post lifts this to the top of the thread or not. My summing up of new and not so new albums I've listened to this week:

Molchat Doma - starting off obscure with some Belarussian synthpop. It's a bit earlyish Depeche Mode, quite good!
Marika Hackman - covers. They're pretty good, if quite low key. Interesting choices - Air's "Playground Love", Grimes' "Realiti", The Shins' "Phantom Limb" etc.
Jesu - really good, clearly Jesu. A bit post-rock, a bit metal, a bit singer-songwriter.
Slift - as mentioned above, this is both epic and magnificent. Makes me glad I scanned down Rough Trade's top 100.
Katy J Pearson - this is pretty good. Sort of countryish indie-pop. Worth a listen or two!
Camila Fuchs - electronic art pop. Reminds me a little of The Knife/Fever Ray. Very good!
Gwenifer Raymond - we know the story - acoustic guitar virtuoso who writes video games by day and has a PhD in Astrophysics. As with her first album, this is very good, compelling at times.
Lambchop - covers, 6 of them. A bit less electronic than some recent Lambchop efforts, harking back a bit to their country got soul period.
William Basinski - tape loops and drones, avante garde but very listenable.
The Bats - veteran Kiwis on Flying Nun make very good, literate indiepop album shocker!
Faten Kanaan - I like this a lot. It kind of stands astride modern classical music and electronica.
LiRaz - she's from an Iranian/Israeli background and is famous in Israel primarily as an actress. It's a very good hybrid of Middle Eastern and more western music.
Trees - a re-release/compilation of their two albums plus extras (mostly alternate versions of things from their albums). They were the young big hopes of the UK hippy-folk scene back in 1970, who never quite got big and split early. It's very good!
Chris Stapleton - country/rock singer-songwriter. A strong album of enjoyable songs.
AC/DC - essentially, the same album for the nth time. Still excellent!
Cherry Pickles - the second thing I've listened to based on Rough Trade's top 100 for 2020. Lo-fi, indie-pop, toward the buzzsaw end of the genre. An enjoyable 28 minutes or so.
Ana Roxanne - esoteric electronica/post-rock hybrid. At its most accessible, quite Juliana Holterish. Probably worth a listen. The Guardian loved this.
Port Sulphur - as far as I can tell, this is a compilation of singles and rareities. Only seems to be available physically or on Bandcamp. Very Scottish indie (they're on Creeping Bent, who are one of the quintissential Scottish indie labels).
The Flat Five - I like this. Not sure I'd describe it as indiepop though, @Mickdundee, depends on your definition, however. Girl-boy vocals and an almost pre rock'n'roll feel at times.

Album of the week: although not new, clearly Slift, although I'm not sure there's anything listed above that I found disappointing.

The 2 Trees albums are excellent.

Someone told me that the woman singer from the Trees went on to record all the platform announcements for the London underground
