Saw again this morning in Wheatley Hill. Also a rare spot of a Black Redstart in Wheatley Hill today with only around 300-400 wintering in the uk, so pleased to see one so close to home.
Was up the cheviots the other day and seen five owls over the course of the day. Probably more than i’ve seen in my previous 40 years combined.
Anyhoo thought they were nocturnal?
Plenty owls on the East Durham coast that fly in off the sea. Sat and watched a Long Eared Owl not too long ago head in off the coast. Fantastic to see. Quite regular now Long and Short Eared Owl on the coast.Anyone old enough to remember collecting birds eggs

I once saw 14 or 15 circling over Strathmiglo in Fife about 8 years ago - it was mating season and apparently not an uncommon sightI saw 5 buzzards together 2 weeks ago flying over Easigton Village. Regularly see 2 and hear them screeching but never seen 5 before. Local birds were having a fit.
As a young un not proud to admit I was an egg collector. Most unusual egg I had was a lapwings. Had a point on one end. Not a rare egg but unusual. Looking back now it was a horrible thing to do. Glad to see it seems to have died out.
Two or three years back I was walking a trail on the outskirts of Ottawa and heard a group of crows kicking off blue murder, dozens of them, I knew it was indicative of a predator, I expected a coyote or black bear, but as I crept slowly closer I saw they were mobbing a huge great gray owl.Anyhoo thought they were nocturnal?
