Getting a test in Sunderland

Struggling to get my breath at times.
Bit of a temperature but not too high.
I'm hoping it's just flu or something.
There's a company offering a test for £125 so will just book that if no joy tomorrow.

Shortness of breath could be a sign that it's Covid-19 rather than Flu or Cold.

"The one key difference between all three is the shortness of breath associated with COVID-19. Generally, the flu or a cold doesn’t cause a shortness of breath as severe as COVID-19."

Hope everything is good.
Cheers.

That's what concerns me a bit.
I've clearly picked a terrible time to need a test though.

Shortness of breath normally happens way down the line mate. And it’s associated with a cough. I don’t think it’s even listed as a symptom.
just checked the nhs website and it’s not listed mate.

The missus, who is a teacher in Sunderland had a do-at-home test supplied by the school. Sent it off Friday, still no results back. She's gone back to school 'cos the head asked her to go back in if she feels alright.
Similar danger here. Gave up on visiting a test centre so she got a home one today and sent off. Already work are hassling her. "if you feel better etc", "you do know you'll only get SSP" and "might need you do some work at the weekend if it's all fine"

I knew it was probably a shambles but confirmed it really is a shambles now

Those who've done this - can you just hit refresh on the choose a test site - or do you have to do the whole form again every time? Bairn's cold has now turned into a cough like I was expecting it to so obviously we're out of the game until she gets a negative.
Oooh day trip to Edinburgh being suggested... from Nottingham.

I had to do the whole form again. The only test site was Aberdeen airport.

I did mine during the lockdown and it was easy, me n our lass were seen v quickly etc. Can only think now loads more trying to get them to ensure they’re able to work / attend school etc?

Pretty much - bairn's got a cough this morning - I know it's cos the manky bugger won't blow her nose properly and has been sniffing up snot overnight, but school won't let her go in unless she's been tested.

SR5 postcode and can't get one, woke up with a cough this morning - hopefully it just goes away in the next hour or so.

Rang 119 to check which it says to do on the automated message. Get through and they now say they cant chase up tests and if you have waited 72 hours, carry on isolating for up to 10 days  this govt are a shambles
So they're basically saying if you haven't heard back in 72 hours they've lost it. Canny.

I don’t understand this. There are systems in every hospital in the country to keep track of every specimen they take . Pages of their SOPs devoted to this. Surely these systems could be applied to Covid tests? It doesn’t involve new tech or massive expense - every supermarket chain uses similar systems to keep track of stock. Hundreds of thousands of hospital tests are performed and tracked every day and very rarely lost.

Maybe that isn't what they mean but I can't think of another reason they can't chase up tests after 72 hours.

Me either.
i know hospital labs face spot checks when someone can pick a sample and they have to be able to show how it was tracked through the system.

Are tests limited to people who are displaying all symptoms, or can basically anyone apply for one?

Wonder if there are a lot of people with a cough or a temperature immediately assuming it's covid-19 rather than the usual coughs and colds (not that I blame them, it's a scary time right now)

Saw some arse on twitter stating that "only people who are definitely infected should be getting tested"

eh???
