Academy manager vacancy on website

Not qualified. And with CAT 1 that matters, no dispensation either.

Scott also not qualified.

And as far as I’m aware there’s no one “internal” who has the Academy Director qual.

The criteria is that the position has to be advertised in three separate places for a minimum of 6 days.

This shows that the recruitment process is a sham and they already have their man.

Didn't realize that, any guesses as to who they'll give it to?

Think my teams got better youth academy then guys at moment. Youngsters have won their leagues back to back. So may not be bad think pinching coach from our academy. Can see us turning into a feeder club to you guys if Donald stays. Any takeover news? Think Donald will be back down here if he sells.

Would love to see a left-field ambitious choice that has been well researched and properly vetted.

Sadly it'll probably be whoever was in charge of internships at Bridle Insurance.

We had that when we recruited Kees Zwamborn from Ajax. But the club/coaches wouldn’t buy into his philosophy and relegation under McCarthy was the perfect reason to get rid.

He apparently has Eufa A.

Wonder how we'd be doing now if he'd stayed on?

Well the Academy had a decent record after him and before Donald and Co so don’t think we’d have become a youth development power house under Kees - but Ajax are still doing pretty well!

Is this a common thing to advertise the role this way? Or are we just that f***ing small time now that we need to do it?

Newcastle did it last year for two Academy positions. I don't think it's tinpot to advertise. Widens the applicant pool and you never know who will impress you at interview.

Yep, if the owners had a clear vision for the club and academy, you'd know exactly who you want in charge off it

I can't imagine a lot on here would like the idea of SD lecturing qualified professionals on how to do their own jobs. Taking a step back and opening up the field would allow fresh ideas and innovative coaches to sell what their vision looks like, perhaps as @Nelson! suggests: a left-field choice.

The list of qualifications is extensive so we'll only get qualified candidates for the job. It'd be awesome to have five or six of them competing and pitching their own ideas and experiences, and maybe teach the old suits a thing or two! It would be quite easy for the club to call up a few names and see who would like a job, but it's lazy and you're unlikely to create a competitive edge that way.

Can see your pint, but normally in things like this you look at smaller clubs where their academy has done well. That's the natural thing in football.
Anyone who is decent in football gets head hunted. Anyone applying for this job, is already likely to be out of work, sadly I dint think this bears well

No point. Could have Pep running the AOL and nothing would chance. The people at the very top have the wrong intentions so therefore the new appointment will be restricted immediately.

As I said, anyone with any ambition and knowledge not Sunderland would not be interested. Unless they are mislead in initial discussions. That wouldnt be a first time either.

Spot on. No point in having a functioning academy that aspires to be the backbone of the club if the owners would rather get a couple of grand and soon as there is any interest rather than bringing kids all the way through to either improve the team or sell for huge profit once they are first team.

why would he take a demotion? in a properly run club...he would be the line manager of this guy.

the gativity round the ademy has been ever present on here..
whats chagd is the club is league one now...

wasnt mcanmee one of thpse staff? and doesnt he feel well eough bout it..to have returned to work there?

When wil you either come clean or fuck off for good?

This appointment should go to someone with the proper credentials to do it, someone fresh from outside SAFC with the pedigree to instantly hold the respect of others at the club, particularly young footballers who need nurturing and developing as people as well as to be top class sportsmen. The cocky attitude and face pulling of Asoro and Maja on the STID episode when they were admonished for being late for training (again it was said) did not portray a professional academy with respectful young professionals.

Whilst it’s not always a pre requisite, someone not that long out of playing at the highest level looking for a break at a good club (we could be if run correctly) with great facilities (the academy has them, apart from the broken lift lol) would seem a good fit.

What is interesting in all this is that the current regime is actively appointing new staff all over the club which is strange for owners allegedly looking to sell, as if we were taken over surely new people would want to bring in better quality personnel in many/most areas?
