Academy manager vacancy on website

If we are having to put open vacancies on the club website for a pretty important role then it doesn't hold much hope for how little in the way of connections the people running the club has in football. You would think that we would have had somebody lined up for this position before Paul Reid got sacked/paid off/left of his own accord...what are the chances of an aspiring Academy Manager looking up safc.com in the search for a job? is it posted on indeed or any jobsite search engines?

Unless the job has been circulated in the football community and no-one wants it

Really should head hunt the best possible candidate (even if they don't have a clue they could employ a professional head hunter to do this), not randomly advertise on the clubs website.

I'm really worried about this one.

As I said in a post yesterday, it will be a travesty if Kevin Ball doesn't get that job.
Sorry mate but Balls time is over here for me. He and McNamee presided over the years to produce only two players of significance which imo show how limited he and others are that have been involved in running the academy in the past. When should have been standing up for our club these past two, all I've heard is SILENCE from him. When I've been to talk ins where he has been never disagrees with the Hands that are feeding him.. Not for me, his time is up here.. Cue the vitriol.

Bain’s best marra! Club wheel him out to deflect criticism as they know he’s popular with the majority of the fan base. Is in an absolute comfort zone.

Has been ‘used’. Is also in line for DOF role under current regime.

best not to try then eh? we are ruined financially because of our blinkered approach.
just di the shortlist via linkedin profiles. Seems to be standard.
I’m not arguing that the academy is being done well, but not even famed academies like Ajax or Barcelona have fielded a starting XI of academy players in living memory. Man United’s “Class of 92” was 7 players if you include Keith Gillespie (could have been 8 if not for Ben Thornley’s injuries).

If anything setting a target like that would put applicants off, not spur them on. It’s the academy equivalent of telling a manager you expect them to finish the season on 138 points - and we all scoffed at a 100 point target!

as said it has to be advertised id different places so no issue with that but I can't help feeling its just a fishing exercise to check applicants references!

We are in div 3.

the league is crap. we will waste more money on bang average to shit players and then weep about finances / expectation levels / reality etc etc.

we have a totally different view on how we should run the club which is fine BUT pursuing the same model as last season / season before will not work.

As an aside interesting to see you use an example of clubs chasing titles in top leagues, is that how you see us?

I don’t think we do have different views on how the club should be run, I want players to progress from the academy to the first team and I want someone in charge of the whole club (not just the academy) to set out a way the team will play that can be implemented across the whole playing staff of all age groups.

However, setting unrealistic targets is demotivating for all involved. If you’d said “at least 50% of the team” or something then fair enough but asking for 11 when our current base level is 1 (Gooch), 2(Embleton) at a push, is unachievable even in the next 5 years, and ahead of even the World’s top academies.

I used the examples I did because they are the most well known academies. I could have used Crewe in the 90s or Southampton in the 00s, the point is still the same - even the best academies have to bring in players from elsewhere. In fact with lower league academies you have the added complication of a player doing well and being bought by a top flight side. However in the time it would take to go from an U23 side who won one game all season to an U23 side who will be filling the first team we will most likely be in the top flight again by then.

it's interesting to hear your views.

I think tough times call for tough measures and the challenge I would lay down to both kick the academy into touch AND the coaching staff / gaffer simultaneously is to DICTATE that no more signings are allowed until we have worked through EVERY SINGLE in house option.

That means all of our lads are blooded, evaluated and utilised OR released. No hiding place for lazy coaches, no excuses from the manager, no more money wasted.

We should have enough NOW to mount a promotion challenge, we spend so much time chasing shit players we ignore our own, we need to concentrate on 30 odd lads (however many it is employed across the age ranges) and get them at it as a group, no excuses, no additions.

That's it. And then see where we are at season end, clear the fkng decks once and for all. SAFC are Weak.
