Well you would have thought if everyone could only pay the same amount, Sunderland would have the better chance than others of signing the better in this league purely on stature.

He's absolutely right. The idea of a wage cap is supposed to be to keep teams afloat, to ensure they are sustainable. But it doesn't do that. If one club has 20 times the turnover of another, a flat wage cap isn't ensuring both can survive, its just actively penalising the club that could comfortably, safely, spend more on wages. A limit as a percentage of turnover is much fairer if the aim is the survival of the clubs. Of course, with SCMP they already seem to have that, so why don't they just enforce that rather than introducing something that means a club with 30,000 paying fans is only allowed to offer the same wages as a club with 2,000
Exactly, all we need to do to sign the better players is to offer the top rate of pay and a second year contract on champo wages.Obviously based on us getting promotion. The incentive for players is there.3/4 of our div wouldnt be able to offer that.Well you would have thought if everyone could only pay the same amount, Sunderland would have the better chance than others of signing the better in this league purely on stature.

Exactly. IF they take us up, the rewards will be more than equal to Champo wages. If the don't, it's bye-bye. Mind you any L1 club could say that, and with the current regime, other clubs might look more likely. You can have all the support, facilities and tradition in the world, but if the management and staff are hopeless, you don't reach your target.Exactly, all we need to do to sign the better players is to offer the top rate of pay and a second year contract on champo wages.Obviously based on us getting promotion. The incentive for players is there.3/4 of our div wouldnt be able to offer that.
Agree other clubs may look a better promotion proposition but not many will do. Plus not any L1 club could say that as they're attendances will limit their actual ability to increase their wage budgets.Exactly. Nail on the head there mate, other clubs would be looked into making spurious claims ,well lies really based on their turnoverAgree other clubs may look a better promotion proposition but not many will do. The worse thing for us, as is often the case, will be geography.
There are no bounds to this clown's incompetence.
Imagine trying to make sure that we have the votes from other clubs to prevent this by saying "sustainability is not the same as levelling the playing field... This issue is not supposed to be about level playing fields" when most clubs will want exactly that?
Not a f***ing clue.
It's an advantage whatever league you are in. Infact whatever walk of life, unfortunately.Recruitment poor ???? It’s been nothing short of scandalous with successive regimes utterly failing to 1) identify the obvious shortcomings in the side and 2) paying over the odds for woefully poor players. It may be an advantage, if you get it right, at championship and PL level but simply getting the right balance, attitude and commitment at L1 level has been proven to be the way out of it. We have shown that trying to be the big boys in L1 simply gets you a team of players who think they are the dogs Bollox without having to try or justify it !
A good manager, work ethic and player passion and commitment will get you out of this league, look at Luton, charlton, Coventry, Rotherham et al !!!It's an advantage whatever league you are in. Infact whatever walk of life, unfortunately.
It wasn't the money that was the problem, it was the idiotic scouts making terrible decisions. With our budget, any reasonable recruitment gets us out of this league.
Why endorse a situation (the salary cap) that makes us to have recruit very very well to get out of this shithole?
Unfortunately to make an impression in the championship, unless things change, we'd have to be pretty flawless due to a lack of money. That doesn't look like it'll be a problem for a long time though.
a flat cap salary would be better

It’s obscene. If this comes in we won’t get promoted in my lifetime. Owners will actively want us to stay down unless crowds get to very low sub 7K Or so numbers .It's a nonsense unless there's also equivalence in income. Why should we be tied to what Accrington can afford?
GG, I disagree and believe every league should have an it's own individual flat wage cap. We should use our extra turnover to make sure we have the best scouting, best training facilities and stadium to attract the players we want at this level. It would make football far more interesting and give every club a chance. He's absolutely right. The idea of a wage cap is supposed to be to keep teams afloat, to ensure they are sustainable. Not saying for a second it won't. What happens if our manager is just as good as theirs and our recruitment team is just as competent? Money could make the difference. Like I say, don't blame the money, it isn't or wasn't the problem.A good manager, work ethic and player passion and commitment will get you out of this league, look at Luton, charlton, Coventry, Rotherham et al !!!

Having said this it's very difficult to introduce something like this quickly, it has to be done incrementally to give clubs a chance to adjust. It also makes it difficult when you have teams being relegated on a higher wage cap or like us with two relegations.
Obviously, this is never going to happen in the premier league and every club up and down the pyramid will only vote for what's best for themselves and sustainability will likely not even come into most clubs thinking.
