presuming you’re ok with tubeless wheels ?
im an old dinosaur who likes my clinchers
not a criticism, and an 11-34 cassette will get you up owt. I’d personally want maybe 11-28 or 12-32 but it depends on things like what riding you will be doing etc...and might then mean changing a rear mech

no I appreciate the advice. Like climbing so thinking it’s ok. Tubeless tires Are good for me

Been out this morning for a couple of hours and got me thinking of getting a hydrid.
My MTB is 10 years old and in excellent nick. Alloy frame, disc brakes, and just changed the tyres to 1.75 schwalbes. Whole bike only weighs about 14 or 15kg.
Is there any point getting a hybrid/new bike?

If you're happy with it stick with it.

You can easily spend £1k on a bike that may only be marginally better than yours

Bike design moves on all the time as does the price.

£2k

any other opinions.
I think that would be a cracking choice, my first road bike a few years ago was a Giant Defy Alu 105 disc and was a great bike, really comfortable to ride. Went from doing tractor rides on my mtb to doing a 100 mile ride in just over 5 months . A carbon TCR with Ultegra should give a nice smooth ride. Enjoy it if you go for it.

Thanks mate. The more time I do less exercise the more I think I will.

Quick question, haven't got a clue about bike tech etc. I've got a hybrid bike on order, it's got 700x40c tyres on it but want to buy a pair of schwalbe marathons, apparently they're the best puncture proof tyres. Can get a pair of 700x35c ones. Would they fit ok?

They'll fit mate......make sure you have a couple of solid tyre levers. They're a pain to get on the rim.

Nice one, cheers. What's the difference between 40c and 35c, the width of summat?

yeah, tyre width - I'll only confuse you slightly by saying the 40c, 35c, etc are the nominal widths in millimeters

btw, not going to try and put you off marathons but i use to use them on my roadbike in 25c - they were dreadful. Difficult to get on/off (nigh on impossible without levers) and no more puncture resistant than anything else i'd used. I also appeared to be unlucky enough to get 2 from a 'bad batch' - bad enough with everything above but then to get tyres that were'nt even round

:-(

swapped them for panaracer gravelkings, and touchwood have'nt had a puncture since i changed over (thats me fecked later)

Stuck in limbo waiting for someone in Finance to pay CycleScheme the money. In the meantime it seems like everything is going out of stock.

Pretty much convinced myself that I wanted a road bike in the 9kg bracket, however now looking at a cyclocross 😂 can almost guarantee the bike I’m after now will be out of stock though by the time I get this bastard certificate.

Tried to buy the Bossnut from Go Outdoors, went through ok, then delivery was delayed, now it's cancelled as they don't have xl frame in stock.

Any reccomendations for mtb for £1000-1200?
