Explained - Why do Sunderland fans hate Coventry City and Jimmy Hill?

I have a vague memory of Jimmy Hill being at a Cardiff City match against us back in 2007.Again he made an appearance at half time. Any one else remember that or am I going senile?

So Coventry were "exonerated of all wrong doing after a hearing." No mention of the fact that Jimmy Hill was himself part of the investigation.
Cheating, whichever way you look at it. Why would they think it's OK to announce the final score in our game given the consequences in their game?
To delay the kick off by 10 minutes for so called 'congestion' was Hill's idea from the very start. The rest was so predictable.
Mr. Football, Mr.Coventry.

Why was this article even printed 4 days before the match to stir up trouble plus most fans of both clubs kna what happened anyway

Not this shit again. It's as synthetic a 'rivalry' as Brighton / Palace. Plenty of other teams we could invent reasons to make up a pretendy rivalry with for things that have happened a lot more recently than 1977.

Strange that they don't mention their 3000 fans unable to get to North London on time, while our 15,000 managed to get to South London.

Horrible, cheating, homeless arseholes, with massive chins.

The 1997 one?

Other clubs too.

Palace knocked us out of the Championship playoffs 28 years after that, in a playoff when they attacked our disabled fans in the first leg and Shipperley sat on our keeper to get a last minute equaliser that led to us losing a place at Wembley.

Millwall cheated their way to beating us in the 2004 Cup Semi Final - if we had won we would have been in the Cup Final and guaranteed European football for the first time since 1974.

Norwich beat us at Wembley in 1985 with an offside goal where the referee told the players that he allowed it to make a boring game more interesting.

Etc, etc.

What Coventry did in 1977 was a disgrace. That doesn't make them our rivals.

Jesus lads you all seem a bit upset 🤣.

Might want to hold them tears in, the oceans raising fast enough don't need another 30,000 people crying.

Silly fkn Portmouth PRAT.
I ain't a Portsmouth fan lad.
No mark matey, you are a nothing club, never have been never will be, go post on your own forum you freak.

What are you on about? You see, I have some sympathy when you call out some of the behaviour from our fans last season, but the 1997 thing is utterly batshit.

Spurs delayed kick off because of a fatal accident on the M1 which didn't affect you as much as you had further to travel and has mostly passed through the incident, whereas our official travel and many Spurs fans heading South hadn't. It is completely academic anyway. We had to win the game to have any chance of staying up. Whether we had kicked off 15 minutes early, 15 minutes late or a week late, it made no difference, there was no advantage to be had. To try and create a conspiracy around that game is desperate.

I don't know, but if they announced the scores of other games while an affected game was still being played, there would be hell on. They fannied about for a whole 15 minutes that afternooon. Bristol City were complicit in the farce, but Coventry made the Tannoy announcement and Hill fixed the 'inquiry'. Double reason to smash them on Sunday;revenge is a dish served cold (and often).
It would never have been so bad if he wasn't such an opinionated overly influential bastard who set himself up as the voice of fairness and common sense. I loathed him and all he represented. Him and the odious Motson spoilt MOTD - oily fuckers

Homeless Club, desperate for rivalry to make up for the absence of any history. My understanding is that their rivals are Walsall and Burton.

I'd like to think you are trolling, but something tells me you are serious. Burton and Walsall 🤣, what are you drinking?
