New York

Subway's ideal like - we got a week pass so you could ride it whenever and however many times you want.

It was about 30 bucks for a week pass in 2017, we were there 2 weeks and only used a taxi once from what I remembered. Was an absolutle doddle, went all over Brooklyn, Manhattan, touched into queens

Aye it is, cheap and quick so ideal to get from A to B. Citymapper on me phone was a godsend for telling us which lines we needed to use and it still worked offline when you lost WiFi underground.
Google maps did this for me. Was a really easy system to figure out as well, unlike San Fran which I'm still not totally sure about.

I also now have the added bonus of knowing what Bob was on about here...

"And the all night girls, they whisper of escapades out on the D train."

Aye sounds about right.

Hang ya head in shame for using the word bucks though.

Looking to go myself later in the year, is it best to book flights and hotel directly through the airline like BA or through Expedia maybe? What would be best? Or shall I shop around travel agents? Only ever been abroad on package holidays. Any advicewould be much appreciated.

We booked flights separately, stayed with a great airbnb in Brooklyn, 10 mins subway ride into downtown, absolutely loved it. Manhattan is bonkers

Went with BA last year. Booked again last month with BA for June - prices were cheaper than separate bookings and had the comfort factor of 1 company for everything. Also only £300 deposit, pay the blance about a month before you go.

That's what I was thinking, thanks for your help - where did you stay last year? Quite daunting when you have so much choice. Going to be a surprise for my lasses 30th.

I have been 5 times now and always just book my hotel direct and my flights with a carrier
I booked my hotel in black friday sales about 9 months ahead last time and got a great deal

Stayed at, and going back to DoubleTree by Hilton (Times Square West) on W40th St. Typical Hilton, room was good and clean, 2 mins from Times Sq, opposite Port Authority Bus Terminal for the subway ... and round the corner from Carlo's Bakery so put an extra notch on your belt.

We just got back from there on Saturday. We went with BA via Heathrow and booked when they had a sale on before Christmas. I would say though that it’s better to fly to the States with Aer Lingus via Dublin if you can. You go through US homeland security in Dublin so your flight arrives as a domestic flight. You just grab your luggage and go.

Did you have a good time?
3rd time for me - love the place. We're going through Dublin this time (had a bit of fart on booking seats with them), it was the only connection that gave us more than 1 hour 20 mins to change and we've tried that before - just made the connection but our luggage didn't:neutral:. What's at Dublin airport .. got over 4 hours to fill ?

It was superb thank you!

There’s the usual overpriced cafes etc in Dublin, I wouldn’t say it’s as good as Heathrow in terms of things to do but you’re thankful of it when you just collect your luggage at the other end.
It might take a little time to go through Homeland Security as it was fairly busy when we were there but you should still have plenty of time to get some food and drink

I flew iceland air last time and a had a few days in iceland as you have to change in reykjavik anyway..so we took the opportunity to stay as theres no extra charge on the flight for stop overs. its superb place..madly expensive beer but its still lush, cant wit to go back

nowt fancy but decent leg room

You're already planning to go back, aren't you ?

Security only took us about 30 mins - maybe we hit lucky.
