New York

Stayed at, and going back to DoubleTree by Hilton (Times Square West) on W40th St. Typical Hilton, room was good and clean, 2 mins from Times Sq, opposite Port Authority Bus Terminal for the subway ... and round the corner from Carlo's Bakery so put an extra notch on your belt.
Stayed here the last time we went, nice hotel, good location.
Stella on draft in the bar was a godsend after the gassy shite they sell

try living here for 15 years.... every now and then "towmaytow" leaves my mouth.... I look around to try work out who said it and realise it's me..
I did that back in 1985 and I’d only been there a week.
Looking to go myself later in the year, is it best to book flights and hotel directly through the airline like BA or through Expedia maybe? What would be best? Or shall I shop around travel agents? Only ever been abroad on package holidays. Any advicewould be much appreciated.
STA. Student Travel Association. They used to let none students join back when I went to the US three times in four summers (84-87).

Opposite the PA Bus Terminal.....FFS!. Apparently it’s not as “lively” as it used to be:lol:
I’ve still got a subway token from my last time ower there in 1987 are they still valid? Also a slot machine token from Vegas from 1984! When Trump goes I may return them.

Tell me more, was it bad ?
It was okay - no disturbance from the terminal and the traffic was no differrent to anywhere else.
The only downside was the number of beggars in the area - get the impression they are kept away from Times Sq so this is where they hang out. It was like crossing a picket line trying to get through them.

8th avenue onwards used to be very seedy back in the 80's was where all the porno theatres were and was rife with prostitution

not like that at all now..walking through hells kitchen was probably unthinkable 30 years ago for a tourist, but now its recomended to see New York life

going for a week in September, staying at The Gallivant. First time going so looking forward to it!

BA are a total rip off mind, the amount they charge for you to select your seat.
Still think you’ll get there? I’ve booked for 8th October and I’m quite anxious to be fair.
