Tesla Motors...

Oh of course but I reckon 90% of this thread has been about acceleration! It’s a beautiful car inside and out. The interior is better looking than the Tesla 3, which I just don’t “get” despite it being an obviously great car.

Soz(I've got a hangover) I should have said 'performance'.

Build quality and even appearance(not looking like a toy) should take precedence imo.

HAHA! Look at the state of that man! 😆

Seems like this year electric car competition will increase massively. Note that Volvo are offering x40 as full electric.

Also there are a couple of other brands that seem to have some cool looking cars albeit not sure how good they are:

Polestar (Volvo dedicated electric car brand)
Lucid
Rivian (May have something to do with Ford)
Byton
Fisher

A lot of the stuff I’ve read on electric cars also say that the Kia e-Niro is a good car and a more affordable price.
I've currently got a Niro PHEV and it's a cracking car at a decent price. Next car will be full electric.

Think e-Niro is fully electric isn’t it? Think it may have been what car of the year.
Aye it's the fully electric version of the Niro. The PHEV suits me at the moment, if I'm just using it for work I can use a tenner petrol in a month but use the petrol motor for trips to the lakes where the charging points are a bit sparse.

It is a strange interior like, I don't think there's any getting away from that, but it does seem to work!
It’s fantastic IMO, I was so bored of cars, this just feels completely different. The only thing really is I don’t think the speed is obvious enough, I’d like that more directly in my eyeline, but suppose it’s just a case of getting used to. I didn’t use autopilot but adaptive cruise control was fantastic, barely had to do anything on the motorway myself, and it felt very safe.

I didn’t turn the sport mode on until Sunderland and it scared the shit out out me, only gave it a proper blast on the coast road last night.

ipace is fantastic too, we looked at them but couldn’t get them near our budgets.
Speed isn’t obvious that was meant to say.

Do you have to look at the middle screen to see the speed? There should be a HUD or something at least. I enjoy watching the Tesla Driver channel on YT to see the successes and failures of the autopilot system, it does seem to be a bit patchy still, but when it works, works well.

Strange that the I-Pace is cheaper than the Tesla but not around the budget. I wonder if they were only making the top-spec one available? I've gone for the base model, wasn't even offered the SE or HSE, and almost certainly couldn't afford them.

3.2 0-60 is just otherworldly though, chances are the only cars you'll come across on the roads that can keep up are other Teslas. Is there a non-supercar with an ICE that can do less than 4s?

Yeah I’ve considered hybrids in the past but the people I know who’ve had them (mainly golfs) weren’t keen as the electric motor didn’t quite give them enough coverage and were constantly charging it and the petrol engine was limited.

I’m interest in moving to a full electric mainly because of the environment and Heath issues associated with diesels, also I’m no longer doing a long daily commute or need to travel for work. The problem at the moment is the initial outlay of the car (£30k plus) so the cost doesn’t really add up as I’m probably only spending £40 a month on diesel. Leasing seems to be the way to go rather than buy out right particularly as the second hand market is pretty untested at the moment.

read this on the Tesla m3 FB page.

“Those that have not yet ordered a model 3 and have access to the NHS Fleet Solutions scheme, go check it out NOW. Model 3 Performance is on special offer from £325 per month. Absolute cracking bargain.

No deposit and this monthly cost covers EVERYTHING. So no Tax/VED/insurance to think about.”
That is an amazing deal. The only time I've ever wished I worked for the NHS. I wish I could find something even close but 3 months down, 20000 miles per year over 3 years including maintenance is approximately double this price.

Even with the 0% BIK? The NHS deal is a very good deal, but that £325 is based on a modest mileage and would increase by at least £100 if not more with that mileage you're doing.

you cant afford one & never ever gonna buy one , just give it up man

I already have a Jag on order that's £20 cheaper than the Tesla per month. The only reason I haven't ordered the Tesla is that the leasing company that my work lease the cars through, won't lease them to people under 30. I'm 29.

You're right though, I'd never be able to buy one outright, because who is daft enough to buy a £60k car outright?

It is faster than some Model 3s but the best Model 3, and the regular S and X are better cars IMO, but considering I currently drive a 68hp Citroen that produces about 90nm of torque and has no gadgets beyond a USB cable, I’d be impressed by anything.

Haven’t taken delivery yet! Let me know what you think.
Gan canny with the new one and try not to drive it into a wall. ;) Will probably take a little time to get used to the acceleration.
I was looking at the I Pace online, no intention of buying, I currently drive a 12 year old diesel, but they look decent.
My only problem with electrics at the moment is where to charge them. Sure that'll be sorted by the time I get round to getting one.

I’m the same in respect to charging these although Sunderland seems to have a reasonable amount of charging facilities thankfully. But on considering it I have few days where I will need to drive anymore than 200 miles in a single day/journey. Main issue is using it for holidaying by car.

I've had quite a few people say that to me. I timed it and my car goes slower from 50 to 60 than the I-Pace goes from 0 to 60

With you on the charging - needs significant investment, there should be points everywhere. All service stations, all public car parks, all supermarkets, all workplaces etc.

House we stayed in in Keswick last year had charging points but I think they are few and far between over there. I guess the reality might not be as bad as I fear but if there is a surge in ownership before the infrastructure is there, you could be stuck waiting at a service station for a charging spot.

Agreed. I’ve toyed with the idea of committing to an electric and then looking to hire a car for longer journeys for holidays and the like. We probably only go on two or three trips of any distance of note a year. They are mainly lakes or Northumberland which is probably 200 mile round trip excluding travel whilst there - so modern electric vehicles should have sufficient coverage to at least get there and back. Hopefully hotels and the like look at this sort of provision in the future to allow all guests to charge their cars.

Wondering if mobile charging stations is part of the answer. As I say every day use should be relatively straight forward as long as you remember to charge overnight.
