Next time Stewie comes out of hiding...

I’m amazed at Parkinson getting battered already.
He’s been here a few days, yes we were dog shit yesterday, same as we were prev games.
Give him time to get a system going and confidence in his players, he may have to get them fit first.
His first view of his team in action yesterday will have have shown him what’s wrong and who is being carried.
Some on here would have sacked him at half time.

He's been given a chance by the owners, sadly. Nowt I can do or say will change that. He won't be a success and it's purgatory until it finally dawns on the people who matter.

If it was up to me i'd sack him tomorrow.
PP has more experience than JR, we can only hope he gets a tune out of this show of players we have. I don't think he will, but looking at the squad of misfits, I don't think anyone could. Owners have allowed the squad to be what it is, JR should have gone after playoff failure and a new manager build a squad

Just out of interest, IF we had appointed SKP and played the way we did yesterday (bearing in mind PP only had 2 days so assume SKP did as well) would there be as many posts and threads moaning and suggesting his sacking?

All this crap about managers.
It's the third tier for Gods sake.
We need to score some goals. That's our main issue and why we look set for another season in this tragic league.

Obviously I'm exaggerating, but there wasn't a single name linked to us that was universally praised by folks on here as being the right man for the job.

While Parkinson isn't the candidate I would have chosen either, he's here now so I think we should give him a chance to see what his plan is for the club. We're not going to see that happen within two days of his arrival.

None of us were in the job interviews, so none of us know who was actually interested in the job and what they said their plans would be in the interviews. It could be that everyone else that made it to the interview stage came across as clueless jokers whereas perhaps Parkinson had a clear plan that fit with the club's schedule for investment. We just don't know.

The club belongs to SD et al. They make the decisions whether we like it or not. I understand why people were getting angry with Short not giving us any money in the Championship to get straight back up, but the vitriol aimed at SD/CM on here while they're trying to bring in huge investment to me is just insane.

It's the whole anyonebut-ism thing. We could have had much worse owners at the club that weren't trying to bring in money to spend on the squad, but we've got these guys that are actually trying. It makes no sense to me to not just question every word out of their mouths, every decision they make, but instead to assume we know better than they do and give them the worst kinds of grief over every decision we disagree with.

To me it's insanity. As a fanbase we're biting the hand that feeds us. If we continue in that vein it's not going to end well for us in my opinion.
Have you heard yourself? Lauding them for sending up the bat signal to a group of billionaires so they can buy their way out of league one because they don’t possess the knowledge and ability to get Sunderland afc out of a league that we should get out of comfortably - particularly with ‘the biggest budget in league one history’. Twice. No sign of a plan. No evidence of coherent direction. No decisions that will benefit us in the longer term. Just fluff and bluster.

Exactly this. A vocal proportion of the fan base have their finger permanently on the self destruct button

If the squad is a ‘mish mash’ without an identity then which manager would have been best suited?

Whoever was appointed needs to mould them into a coherent team, and our recruitment tends to be very hit and miss.

Does this mean that Ross failed or the recruitment failed? Many fans thought that we needed more height and more pace.
For me, Donald has failed. He provides direction. He sets the tone. He employs everyone. That is where we’re lacking. Having no ability to discern an identity that best fits our squad and find a manager to match that is poor stewardship. They went into management recruitment with no idea what we needed and waited to be told a story that they liked the sound of. It’s incredibly poor.

To answer your first question, the best fit of those who were linked was Ainsworth. None were perfect fits but that’s because the squad is a mess.

Fair points and I respect your opinions.

We don’t seem to have been blessed with intelligent leadership at SAFC over the decades.

We missed out on promotion by one match last year. Let's not pretend we were miles off it happening.

This year we've not looked the part and so the owners sacked the manager, like the vast majority wanted him to do.

The "plan" that you say you can't see any signs of is clear as day to me. They're trying to bring in very wealthy investors so that they can give the fans what they want! HANG THEM NOW!

The "coherent direction" that you say you see no evidence of seems obvious to me: steady the ship, stop the freefall we were in, get the club self-sufficient instead of hemorrhaging money the way it was so that investors will find us more appealing, bring in investors, move onward and upwards.

The decisions that will benefit us long term that you say we don't have are exactly those that I just described.

You're allowing yourself to be blinded by your rage at our results. You're failing to see the all the many good things the owners are doing just because the footballing aspect hasn't gone completely to plan yet.

Patience will be rewarded in most aspects of life. Impatience will hound out not only these owners but any potential owners in the future. The same with managers and players. Who the hell would want to own, manage or play for a club where there are so many fans standing with their pitchforks out during the press conference announcing the owner/manager/player's arrival?

On the match thread you were the one saying sack him at half time. It’s pathetic and to me saying stuff like that means you have no credibility.

The point I was making was he should never have been appointed at all and while we are now stuck with him its going to be a nothing but a waste of time.

Of course I didn't expect him to be sacked at half time. I was pointing out that hypothetically we might as well as its, in my opinion, inevitable he will be sacked in a matter of months after doing a bad job.

....which I doubt will happen soon, he should be asked point blank why he thinks Parkinson is better than Stendel, Ainsworth or even Phillips (none of those seem unrealistic) and made to defend the appointment. We are already back to just getting a press release from the club and no dialogue because they know they're a f***ing disgrace and their decision making is a joke.

I haven't heard one supporter say they're happy about Parkinson, or even defend him based on anything concrete. He's had two promotions from this division in 16 seasons at this level. Nothing other than blind faith could lead you to believe he is a good choice.

Don't expect him to ever be asked but would love to hear him try to justify it.
Do you think we will of been playing passing free flowing attacking football if Stendel was in charge after 2 training sessions

We needed a lift and a bounce. SKP would have brought the fans together and given us someone to rally around and inject some passion. We’ve got a plodder from the doldrums who absolutely no one wanted other than Donald and Meth.

You're not allowed to point out that no one wanted him now he's here, we have to pretend he is good.

If you'd taken a poll before his appointment I'm sure less than 5% would have been for it.

No, but it may have happened at some point. PP won't ever even attempt to and that's my biggest gripe. The absolute best case scenario under him is effective crap football but with no.long term plan.

I'd like to know exactly who these people are advising SD that he has referenced on both appointments.

I’d rather have Parkinson than Phillips. Other than scoring some goals for us 20 years ago, I’m not sure what his credentials are. No other club trying to get promoted would consider him. Toss up between him and Ainsworth. He doesn’t exactly play expansive football either. Stendel would have been above him on my list at the start, but it’s not cut and dry. He’s literally just been sacked, and he’d have to adapt his style massively with our squad.

Let’s not pretend like those three are obviously better options.
Did you see the 'football' we showed yesterday?
