Work commute

Went from being 20 minutes walk from home to doing about an hour between Sunderland and Newcastle. Didn't mind it, most of it was sat on the Metro anyway. While the distance would be a factor in taking another job, 20-30 minutes a day extra isn't going to be a big deal.

That said, I'm back to being 20 minutes walk from home.

Never had to travel more than 30 minutes each way like. Currently it takes me roughly 12 minutes each way to and from work in the car.

In November I will have to travel to Durham city centre which will take 25-30 minutes each way depending on traffic but I don't mind, any extra time taken to the new office I get paid back in flexi plus I'll get 45p per mile door to door so I'll be better off altogether.

Don't get anyone complaining about an hour or so. I've done around 1-1.5 hours for years although it's on public transport so easy to fill the time in. Also working flexibly helps to avoid the busiest times. My colleagues in my current job are all based in London and Telford so I only go into my home office about once a month and work from home most of the time which I suppose does up my quality of life.

Similar - when I worked down at the Wilton petrochem site in Redcar. That was an 80 mile return journey on the Wacky Races track (A19).
We were on radius money - so it eased the financial burden of petrol & car wear & tear etc.
I hated it though - I only lasted a few months each time, I couldn't wait to get back offshore!!
Long time since I worked on the Wilton site. Hated it also. Longest commute I have done was to Haugesund in Norway but I loved working out there.

Being embarrassed of living alone in a tiny flat just to say you can live in London is completely understandable. Still though, you’ve made it living down there.

But you've made that up. My living situation couldn't be any further from what you've described. Not sure why you're so obsessed with where I live either.

You're completely humiliating yourself.

Why would I possibly doubt it?

Oh hang on, I know folk living down there, who have good degrees, who aren’t living the life of Riley.

So there’s definitely a good chance you’re full of shite.

Hopefully they knuckle down and find they're looking for. I know I have.

I'm sensing a huge inferiority complex from you here, which is understandable.
