The hundred starts next year and I dont have a local team to watch unless local involves a 2 and a half hour drive....
Problem with putting money into Durham it that's a 4 plus hour drive!Cause it’s shite.
Just put your money into Durham CCC in the other formats.
Ah, that's fair enough mate - sorry, I thought you were saying that the Hundred will be a success, and it's a few stuck in the muds saying otherwise - wasn't trying to dig you out either, just say why most are against it.Don’t know mate, there were all quotes from other posters, I always thought all cricket was proper cricket!
You have got me wrong mate, I don’t want the hundred either as would much prefer just one T20 competition.
Just find it unbelievable that for years and years , many posters on here were slagging of T20, yet now are singing it’s praises from the rooftops.
Maybe just maybe something new and exciting maybe be a success as the blast has proven?
However two competitions of roughly the same thing is overkill for me and could spoil a good thing.
Sorry misquoted you there.
What I should have said, is no it isn’t, it’s brilliant exciting cricket that thousands watch, and as the op said on the finals day thread, it is the highlight of the county calendar.
That, and the fact it's still cricket.
Six ball overs, 20 overs a side, played by the 18 counties. Yes, it took purists a long time to recognise it - and I've no doubt that were I old enough in 2002 to have an opinion, I'd have been one of them.
But the Hundred is based on balls, not overs; lots of 5 or 10 balls; between a few elite cities, and completely disregards more than half of the counties in the country.
That's why it'll never be successful or accepted, and that's what the likes of @Voice of fair play refuse to recognise
Well it certainly isn’t the highlight of my County calendar, as a comparison I’d say T20 is a bit like comparing a five a side kick about with your mates and playing eleven a side in your local league.

Proper cricket is red ball, white clothing - it’s a phrase that is used the world over by players, coaches, pundits and journalists.
So either they’re all wrong, or you need to accept that there’s no malice whatsoever in calling something proper cricket - simply that it is an adjective widely used and accepted to refer to Test/First Class Cricket.
I’m not disagreeing regarding it’s popularity, our original conversation was regarding whether it’s proper cricket, obviously our opinions differ, you obviously either didn’t agree with or understand my football analogy, I stand by it.Thousands disagree that’s why games are packed out!

For me, T20 isn't cricket as such - it's bloody good entertainment, but in terms of the razmatazz, the way it's played etc - it's totally different but what's gone before.
But I enjoy it, because it's still cricket at its core - as I say, counties, overs, and totally in tune with what the game has always been.
The Hundred, for me - and seemingly, the vast majority of cricket fans - totally disregards almost two centuries of the greatest game on the planet, and is a massive "fuck you" to the County system.
I enjoy T20, as I've said I do consider myself a purist - Test and First Class for me are the be and end all and "proper" cricket, but I thoroughly enjoyed those games yesterday - I can happily sit and watch T20, it's great for attracting newbies, it's awesome entertainment and the skills are amazing.
The Hundred, however - if it was played in my back garden, I'd close the curtains. I'll actively go out of my way to avoid watching it. I don't want to be a part of something that is going to kill the County system.

Ok mate , I surrender.I think I can see people’s point especially when they associated to and support a county that’s not involved.
I can see that point of course I can, but people were having a go at T20 and that turned out to be great.
They is probably no need for the hundred but I would rather wait and see how it goes than constantly criticise it before even a ball is bowled.
To me a football analogy would a 11 side 5 5 draw with a last minute equaliser.
The same number of players playing it as in T20 and T20 having more close and entertaining games
Ok mate , I surrender.
The point I was trying (unsuccessfully) to make is that a five a side football kick about on a Friday night after work is a world away from playing in The Peterlee and District Sunday League for the Dog and Duck, T20 is what it is Bish, bash, bosh no finesse at all, end of conversation, good afternoon and enjoy the rest of your day.I think it’s diffcult to understand your anagolgy when T20 is still played with the same number of players in other cricket (11) so not sure how five a side is any kind of comparison.

As an exile, it makes it even worse that my home county and the county I love in are not involved in it
Thousands disagree that’s why games are packed out!
Fair enough but I know one thing for certain when you and I played 20 over games for our clubs we were playing proper cricket.
And don’t know why somebody having other clothing than white would change that?
I do see it as a bit of a elistest and snobbery thing to do calling other cricket no proper cricket and a kind of thing a Tory would do
My apologies. Put your money into your local non-hundred county then
It may be elitist, but that’s the way it’s regarded.
Your refusal to accept that is pedantry of the highest order. You won’t admit it though
I just prefer not to judge or look down my nose at something, thought most people in this area would feel the same.
Don’t take such offence then, because in my experience it isn’t said to belittle the other formats.
Put simply, Test and First Class Cricket in white clothing and played with a red ball was the original version of the game and it was around for over 100 years before any other format. So it’s perfectly reasonable to consider that to be ‘Proper Cricket’.

‘Non-playing players’
I actually think there’s the potential of some sort of trading standards type lawbreaking or atleast an attempt to misinform by using players to aftertise something where they’ll play no part.
Imagine a child persuading their dad to take them to see a game because Ben Stokes appears in a promo video in a teams kit, only to find he doesn’t actually play for them.
The Hundred - a moronic idea from a governing body not fit to run a f***ing bath.

Agreed on both points. It is the worst idea I have ever heard about in my entire life. Not just in cricket, in f***ing everything.
I agree with you on T20. It's an excellent game.
As is ODI cricket.
As is Test.
Sure, I have a preference for the latter, but the thing is they are all identifiably the same game. The rules barely change, a few tweaks.
The Hundred is f***ing garbage. Hate it.
