Who was the safc left back, from pennywell

I’ll have known his face. Sadly the jov was knocked down a few years back now. I was driving up general havelock road yesterday past twiggys parents house.

We spent plenty of time playing pool and darts in there back in the 80s arguing about everything and if I recall twiggy supported nufc, the traitor but I think that was just taking the piss. John Rocks was another one who supported them back in the day

He may call me jimmy if you see him.
I don’t know them mate, I’m a Seaham lad, but I’ve worked in Sunderland and played football there, also my parents and most of my family at ‘townies’ that’s how I know quite a few people. Plus going to the match since I was 5.

img492 Hopey away with England here, Wolfy on this photo.I always thought he was the better keeper.
Played against all of them, my year. Turned Phillip james inside out to score v red house. Gary Porter was a fantastic player at schoolboy level and went onto watford

Great memories there

Billy bowman was a good lad who went to st aidens and knew a cousin of mine.

I left my mark and they left theirs on me, back in the day

I played for Herrington Juniors with Gordon, he was a cracking lad.
Yes, could tell a few fantasy stories mind. He wanted me to go to Malta with him once, he reckoned we'd easily get professional football contracts there. I didn't go, :)

Alan used to run our team. Derek was our centre half.

I played against him. Got a nice stud scar for the pleasure, though I left a bit on him as well

I’ve just spotted Fez on there. His little brother was a bit out of shape but turned into a cracking little player

Not sure but I think they may have played in the Scots second division

We were class like :) Smiter was signed up but it's luck as much as anything. In reality it could have been anyone of a pretty large group. I still have regrets and feel the pain every single day and I'm 49 :)
Those lads were all my year. Had many times playing v them and knowing a couple of them. The lad ferry in the front row and his brother were friends back in the days, of twenty a side games up Hylton Road School pitches up ford estate

I could never get close enough to kick Gary Porter though I tried many a time. Phillip James I turned inside out one game over redhouse comp.

Fairweather and Corner went to Thomas Aquinas iirc and were decent players but not close to porters class.

The keeper in the lighter coloured top, psyched me out on a pelanty at thornhill. I went to blaze it, and it was recreated by Chris waddle in the 90 semi final

I had always placed my pelantys that was the only one I ever missed. As you can tell I’m only just getting over it.

Paul revely was another players I tried my best to catch and smithson nearly broke my leg a few years later in local football up hill view

Ah happy days
Fez was a bit rotund too iirc.
That was the younger one. The lad in the pic was the older brother who had a touch of class with his play

I’m sure they played in a Scots second division team back in the day

I'm a year older. I think the only one who made a career of it in my year was Grant Brown. I played with him for a few games at Ryhope under 18. Burt was pure class but his demons stopped him making it RIP.
I know both of them. Also a lads called Paul Lawson and Alfie Turner were cracking footballers.

Alan Hope was a bit of a short arse for a keeper. Brilliant shot stopper though.
Me and Alfie played together since being bairns, he'd often make it up to the boilers for a game. He's s two years older I think. Brian, can't remember his second name? curly blond hair, was very good too.

There one lad not on that picture called Gary Murphy who made the squad when they got to the final of the national schools competition. He was a friend all through from junior to senior schooldays of mine and fellow team mate.

He left the area decades ago, the last time I saw him was in the echo, pictured at a Bruce Stingstein concert at the sol, or whatever the boss was called

I was in the Pennywell team, when we left school, with Bobby Martin, Glenn Reynolds, Cragga, Barry Cook was usually sub, that's how good we were.

Hylton played pennywell in the cup once and it kicked off, pennywell player had a flick knife down his f***ing sock!
there was f***ing hell on
