Ashamed of Being Poor

Years back not long after I left uni and got a low wage job my best friend was getting married. She expected her bridesmaids to buy their own dresses, and I said it would be a problem, so she asked two other girls instead! Didn't bother me - but obviously I've never forgotten it! 😀

Nobody should ever be ashamed of being poor.

The country should be ashamed that we have so many poor people however
Absolutely.

I grew up in my first 16 years living under Tory rule. Both parents grafting like fuck to put food on the table. We had fuck all looking back but my parents were and still are proud working class people.

9 years of Tory rule has taken us even further back than under the thatcher/major years.

Absolutely this ^^

The bride should a) not be asking her bridesmaids to pay and b) should know it’s a lot of money to ask your daughter to pay. And c) I’d happily chip in £20 towards her outfit.
My first thought was to stick £20 in too but the more I think about it, its just funding the rich birds wedding. Explain her financial obligation for her own wedding and if she won't yoke wish her a happy wedding day is the answer.

I've been poor all my life. Never had a mortgage, currently got about 4k debt and 500 quid in the bank. Doesn't bother me in the slightest and its sad that people are so obsessive over money and wealth. The most generous people I know are the ones that don't have 2 pennies to rub together.
There is a lot of truth in that!!

I’d never heard of a groomsman until I read this thread. Is this more unnecessary wedding extravagance dreamed up by the suit hire people?
