McLaughlin (new signing)
Matthews
Oviedo
Flanagan (new)
Baldwin (new)
Catts
Power (new)
Honeyman
McGeady
Gooch
Maja

That was what we started with in main over first part of season so the core of side was also inherited.

He was given a helluva lot of money for league 1 to improve us and I don’t really think he has.
Granted this was done in the beginning of May, and admittedly it's a flawed process anyway but going off appearances I had us at

McLaughlin - New Signing

O'Nien - New Signing
Baldwin - New Signing
Flanagan - New Signing
James - New Signing

Cattermole
Power - New Signing

Gooch
Honeymon
McGeady

Grigg/Wyke - New Signing
(although Maja wasn't and he's played 1 time more than Wyke)

After this you've got
Maguire - New Signing
Oviedo
Matthews
McGeouch - New Signing
Morgan - New Signing
Leadbitter - New Signing

Wouldn't be surprised if Oviedo had overtaken James but Wyke would now have more appearances than Maja.

It's all hypothetical as well at this stage but I reckon this years team would beat last seasons. Purely because this seasons has a keeper.

I agree with your last paragraph.

I think the difference is Barnsley's squad was pretty settled in pre season. We essentially had Honeyman, Gooch, Maja, Matthews, an injured McGeady and the maybe departing Oviedo and Cattermole. We've had to sign a lot of starters in a matter of weeks.
Barsnley may have had lots coming in and out, but, their continuity and core squad was, more or less, intact. A lot of their players who played last season played this season. We had, what, maybe half a dozen?

Which is the way to do it, of course.

It couldn’t have been that settled they had more comings and goings than we did.
Haway man.You might be controversial but not usually thick.

Remember pre season? We were in complete disarray and hardly any of the squad wanted to play. Ross has had to build and motivate. He has done a remarkable job and too many have short memories.
I was not alone in being worried about relegation.
We didn't even have a full team!

Nonsense.

We had the spine of a side akready there man. Most of them with premier league experience as well. The situation he walked into gets more exaggerated by the day in Here.

He’s had an absolute fortune to spend as well by league 1 standards.

Also who was the last side in league 1 that had to continually call of games due to international call ups? That should give you another indicator into the resources Ross has had for this piss poor division.

Rubbish. We had to get rid of most of the first team and only kept the ones we couldn't move on. We were also restricted to free transfers, loan players and cheap signings due to our massive wage bill and fair play rules. Ross has built a team from a complete mish mash.
Could not have been a less settled squad.

Ha ha. The spine is exactly what we were lacking.

Do you think Ross was embarrassed his riches when only 8 turned up pre season! Ffs

If we don’t go up, I’m, for the first time in years, very proud of our team.

It’s been a really long and tough season, we’ve come a long way since that Charlton game.

The lads has never, not once, gave up.

Quality and consistency has been lacking but I’d never, never criticise a player who grafts.

All round, players, staff, and most of all, fans. All been class.

Let’s enjoy Sunday, as we did Checkatrade trophy’s.

If it’s L1 next year, fine. We finally have some foundations and I’m confident we have the right team and club to be successful.
im pleased you are, but i honestly think given our resources, player quality/experience our squad have underperformed, and dont look fit enough to out work many teams in this divison

5 of those players he inherited had all played premier league and a few were internationals .
We have spent more money than rest of league 1 and 2 combined and you’re trying to make out Ross had his hands tied in transfer market!

He’s also got enough internationals to call off games in league 1. Something I can’t revall happening before.

Hardly controversial mind, I think the majority of genuine supporters feel the same.

The current owner, manager & players have at least given us our pride back! Compared to the shit show under Short, Moyes & last season... this year has been class!

Pride?
We have just finished 5th in league 1!

We had 10 years in top flight under short!

Honestly all it takes is a bit buttering up of our supporters and they lap it all up.

They had not played very well in the premier or championship, and are not very good internationals. You just like to argue.

Yet still played there and are internationals which is more than can be said for other clubs in the league.

We also had more money than the 2 lower leagues clubs combined.

But yeah Ross is a miracle worker

Short memory. Only 5 players were committed to staying when donald took over. You clearly are oblivious to the state we were in.
We are viewing this from different angles. I think you would agree you are looking at paper, but never that simple. On paper a strong squad when we were relegated. Did you think we would go up after last season ended?
