The Homeless

She isn’t homeless just begging mate ,believe me. FACT!
Just a thought but please please please think a little bit more , when someone moves on from being homeless to maybe having a house but still needs help but the government money isn't enough to live on they still need more money for food , Yes some are professional beggers but the vast majority in Sunderland are not. Also some have had severe ongoing medical problems which effects them going forward, I volunteer with a homless charity and it's really opened my eyes to what goes on. There's are some unbelievably sad circumstances out there. Please think hard before judging anyone.

Been down Manchester all week and must've seen at least 30 in one small area. Absolutely criminal that this still happens in this day and age.

Had to go into town today for something with my son and I did comment that it must be horrible being homeless, but imagine being homeless/on the streets in Sunderland. What a desolate place.

Really? So government educational systems are far better than a private one? Being dependent on a centralized government is far better than free choice? The only way to succeed in life is at the mercy of government policies?

Hard pass for me...

If government is so great, why is it that the people most dependent on it are hurt the worst? And the people least dependent on it seem much better off?
f***ing hell it's Tosker!

And he gets rich by doing this?

Was the welfare state a successful system...did it make people richer or did it just keep them poor and dependent on handouts. Just curious. Because I dont like paying high taxes and would like to keep more of my earned money. Why do people think they have a right to other peoples income??
We don't get to choose where our tax money goes. Some pacifists don't like contributing to the £37 billion defence budget. That's tough shit on them and it's tough shit on you that you have to contribute to the welfare budget.

So why didn't Blair n Brown who were in for yonks do owt to reverse things, you know, the men of the people?
Did you not notice all the new schools and hospitals that were built during that time? You can argue the toss about the model used to finance them, but the net result is schools which were literally falling down were replaced, ditto hospitals, walk-in centres etc, many of which are now being closed to the detriment of the local communities all in the name of austerity.

Was walking in town and a woman stopped me to say she was homeless and needed money to get to somewhere that was about five miles away.

Not only did she have to be homeless in a very specific place, she didn't want to risk jumping a train and the fine being sent to ... ..erm, where exactly?

Its a total scandal and disgrace that the many avenues of support you mention for the disadvantage, were taken away by this government. The cuts in education and services to local communities has had devastating impact for many.
For a country that is supposed to be one of the wealthiest in the world, we have got some priorities totally wrong. Quality of life and even life itself are becoming less important, as long as we have nice looking city centres for the well off to enjoy and councils and politicians to brag about.

When it's freezing cold, with snow, hail or sleet lashing against the windows, I know that, like many of us, I thank my lucky stars I'm not living on the streets. It's there but for the grace of God. If you think otherwise, that's your prerogative, but I'd urge you to think again....
I watched this video a few years ago and it really moved me. If only more people would listen to the voice of homeless people.

Thanks marra, I'll watch this tomorrow. But I do know that it only takes a few seemingly minor things to go wrong for many of us to find ourselves in a similar situation. It's a more fragile state of being than some people seem prepared to acknowledge.

It's like you live in a back to front world.

I heard hospitals make people sick, or do you think it's a coincidence that hospitals have a load of sick people in them?

I think if you lived a healthy life and looked after yourself, you would be less likely to be in hospitals so much. Also if you did well in school, were hardworking, ambitious and independent, you would probably be less dependent on government services. I find it ironic that people want so much government in their life, where they limit their freedom of choice then complain that same government are screwing them over. I mean someone actually posted about Karl Marx..wtf.

It's called capitalism. All explained very well in "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists". It's about relative wealth and inequality. Even if incomes in general increase, if the incomes at the top increase be relatively more, then those at the bottom are relatively poorer. If, for those at the bottom, that increase is lower than the inflation rate they experience, then they are, in real terms, poorer.
.

I'll take capitalism over any other system in the world.

Many hundreds of thousands of poor people on benefits not homeless. I would imagine it's a lot more complex.
Yeah it's very complex. Before Marx nobody could even work our where the growth was coming from. He realised it comes from the exploitation of the working class and that it would end in failure. The failure we see in society now, the growth we have gone through in the last hundred years to still be working +40 hour weeks, the failure to help those who can't work for whatever reason and the obvious exploitation of the third world.

I think you’re confusing government (which allows a country to allocate resources) with government that acts in self interest rather than the interest of the population
