Player Club Moves For 2019

South North have signed Gareth Wade apparently. Nee one will touch them this season.

It's sad really. They have this incredible set up and catchment area, get 100s of kids along, yet rarely seem to get any of them through their ranks. I have played 2s for the past few seasons in their division and barely seen one young lad come through, it's the same lads every year. Just seems a waste of all of the effort with their kids if they just buy in from elsewhere when it comes to the senior set up. I guess the parents must be cash cows.

I agree, South North are a major problem in North East Cricket.

The best team in the country on numerous occasions are a major problem for North seats cricket? Good logic there, sunshine.

They’re a terrific outfit who have some serious quality and depth within their side.

Nobody disagreeing with their quality and depth. The point is they do very little (if anything) to develop their own senior players, and their level of importing in to have the best team by a street does very little for the competitiveness of the region's premier league.

It's like Man City playing in a division full of League Two teams at times.

Presume with how confident you are with your claims you know exactly how much every team in the NEPL (and other leagues) are spending on their respective players?

I’m not doubting they pay some of their players, but South North attract the players they can on the back of county-class facilities, incredible on field success and constant ambition. The argument about clubs spending out of their means to enjoy 1/2 years of success at regional level (and regularly coming up short) has been overdone - SNCC don’t need to do that.

I would bet that SNCC are comfortably in the bottom half of player wages outlay in the NEPL this season, as well as previous years when they’ve enjoyed success.

South North are registered as Community Amateur Sports Club with HMRC giving them tax relief which means they are restricted in what they can spend on players. I think maximum of £10k in total springs to mind

Thats not to say they arent remunerated in other ways though

Did Consett not turn them over in a cup final last year ?

Which means that the league is not competive and the outcome of the league is known before the season has started.

Not sure that is good mind

NEPL regarded nationwide as one of the most competitive Premier leagues in the country - well regarded that whoever gets out of the area and regional (taking in NYSD teams) will go very far in National competitions. Though they didn’t win either national title last season, SNCC lost to the winners of both (Richmond early in Club comp and Hanging Heaton in last 8/16 of t20) - it takes very good teams to beat them.

Also, for a team that ‘don’t develop their own’, they have four outstanding senior sides that are very successful and players migrate between them all; many played 1s and 2s last year. They had 4 U18s play 1st XI last year, all juniors from the club and 2 were U15s, on top of that they have 3 players in their 20s feature every single week in the 1st XI, 1 a junior having gone the whole way through and 1 a young signing looking to play at the best facility in league, the other taking a prominent role in the batting line up. They also had 3 other 20 somethings play more than 3 1st XI games this year, again both who have been at the club for many, many years.

Yes they have an incredibly talented nucleus of players all from the same generation, but they have enjoyed their success together and now play as mentoring figures to some of the most talented youngsters in the league.

They’ll always get hate and be put on a pedestal for what they have achieved and people will always love to hear they’ve lost, especially to ‘minnows’ - but as mentioned, people play there to be successful and their own self-worth and achievement of winning the highest honours available to amateurs - every one of their 15+ players to represent them could make small fortunes playing elsewhere if they were solely money orientated.

As for the Celtic comparison? Carrying the reputation of a league on their shoulders and success whilst the rest chase to keep up? If Celtic representing the SPL in the Champions League is the equivalent to SNCC representing the NEPL in the Nationals, there’s only one winner...

You first line is complete nonsense, how can a league be competitive when the same team wins it every year, year after year!

Either you don’t understand what competive means or you confusing it with the fact that South Northumberland are a extremely competive side both locally and nationally suspect it’s the former.

Which is totally diffrent from the NEPL been a competitive league!

Hanging Heaton were 3rd last season and many points, 40 or more, behind Pudsey St Lawrence (Champions) and New Farnley who were runners-up. So does that equate SN as a mid-table side in the Bradford Premier League?

How is the NEPl competitive? Youre talking nonsense. It’s the most boring league in the county man :lol:

Really? Going down that route? Should Hanging Heaton have been awarded the NEPL title alongside their national title then?

Is every team that has beaten Real Madrid this season now Champions League winners? Maybe the Premier League should swap Man City and Spurs positions in the League after they beat them the other night? God forbid maybe Newcastle United should be in Man City’s league position having beaten them a few weeks ago?

Or, in cricketing terms, maybe South North should claim the league titles of every ECB Premier League in the country for the years they have won each of their nation titles? After all, if by your rules they can beat one person in the league, they would beat them all too..

Something tells me you have a bee in your bonnet.

Great post. I wouldn't say that South North are the jewel of North East Cricket though.

To me clubs like Washington, Sacriston, Hetton Lyons who get loads of juniors in from 'normal'/ working class backgrounds are the ones who deserve the most credit. At a time when participation is falling they really buck the trend.

I think SN would be better off dropping the whole snobbish, divine right act they seem to have going on. Just because you are a better cricketer than someone it doesn't make you a better person. Have a drink with the opposition after the game, rather than take the piss out of them referring to them as being 'disabled'.

Such a detestable group of self-serving arseholes, in my oponion, with little to no care for how the local game develops outside of their own financial interest.
