Teams going up from League One tend to do alright in the Championship, and I think we might be surprised at how attractive we suddenly become again if we do go up and have looser purse strings!

Looser purse strings? There's a hole in the bottom of the purse draining it's contents into Oviedo & Catt's bank accounts. Until that's sorted they'll not be loosened.

Well the good news is that the situation is coming to an end, we still have plenty of time to react in the window and I think £3.5m seems acceptable.

The bad news is we are effectively rebuilding the teams forward line in the last days of the window in what is a crucial season where promotion is a must.

They knew this was coming, so should be prepared

It's unlikely we're going to find someone with the conversion rate of Maja. If we sign someone like Eaves, or Marquis, or Moore, unless we suddenly start creating two or three times as many chances, we're going to be screwed.

Maja... 15 goals from 33 attempts.
Moore... 13 goals from 61 attempts.
Eaves... 14 goals from 57 attempts.

Doesnt quite work like that though. If Eaves for example creates chances for Mcgeady and Co with his hold up play we may spread the goals around and then not be as reliant on one striker, which you were complaining about just a minute ago.

Maja is young and improving though, I reckon he would make the step up to the championship now. Grigg hasn't been able to make the step up and looks unlikely to be able to.
He is aye. We don’t know if he will make the step up and he has no intention of staying here so his potential is irrelevant in terms of comparing him with his replacement.

I would have thought he would have stayed in England. I can't see him doing much at Bordeux. They are mid table, not going to get relegated or into Europe so he might get some game time as they've nothing to play for.

Durham reckon it's baffling that Spurs haven't put a bid in for him. Up there with the time he was convinced Colback should be the first name on the England teamsheet. He really is a twat with not much knowledge or understanding of football.
Not true. He's got a good knowledge of football, especially in the lower leagues (which is unusual) but it's his job to be sensationalist and contrary to piss people off. Although I haven't listened to him in a long while as I can't stand Darren Gough.

and was he wrong about catts? if he wanted to leave a penny behind he could have got a move..he is still here..i reckon stewrat said what he said because he wanted catts out..but catts is still here..
He said things he should not have said to the public about a player who still has an obligation to the club. He had no right to comment on what Cattermole's intentions were. Cattermole has proven time and again he wants to play for Sunderland and as far as his contract goes he's more than entitled to it. So yes he was wrong, and the fact the lad plays week in week out goes to show that. And given that, forgive me if I take it with more than just a pinch of salt that Josh Maja has categorically refused to play for the club only days after celebrating his goal in front of our fans.

That's phenomenal!! I knew his conversion rate was good but not that good. A few of the goals weren't even chances too!

As you say we need to either hope that whoever we sign as a replacement has the same conversion rate (practically impossible) or brings something to the team that means we create more chances and they therefore get to have more attempts.

We haven't created lots of chances , no matter who has been playing up front. To suggest that getting a less prolific striker will mean we create more chances for other players is a ridiculous premise that Wyke and Sinclair playing confounds. The reason we don't create many chances lies in CM, not who is playing up front.

Exactly, we need to keep the ball in the final third, just playing kids but we did do very well last night and there were shots raining down on citys goal from all angles. We attacked well as a unit. Whereas in the league we currently create 1 chance a game which Maja must score to get us the point. Could be totally different / better with some new personnel.
