News story coming up on BBC Look North at 1.30pm - Sunderland Extremists and UKIP

It really isn't. Jeff Brown, presenter of Look North is constantly banging the drum for Sunderland. Not only on the show but by turning up and supporting nearly every cultural event going as well as presenting and even writing a play about a Sunderland player.
Not the behaviour of someone who is biased against us.
Loads of local media people live in and love Sunderland, I've met many of them and following them on social media backs this up. It would be bizarre to then get into some conspiracy at work to slag off the place they love. I'm still at a loss why local media would choose to alienate a large proportion of their population.

I don't see Jeff brown being overly bias towards Sunderland, more so he gives a correctly balanced view.
The overall message from both channel ARE biased against Sunderland. Quite often it's subtle, for instance they did a piece on brexit and interviewed people in jamesons daytime, they suggested they were the representative voice of Sunderland before cutting to a more "progressive" view from Newcastle!

Last week John hall said Tyne Tees were an important mouthpiece for NUFC, from studios based on Tyneside with journalists and employees who are pro-Newcastle.

If they were balanced we'd have BBC Tyne and Wear.......but we don't we've got BBC Newcastle

They're scum

It's a one off programme on Inside Out which is basically a localised Watchdog show trying to make drama out of not very much. It's on every week and focuses on towns and cities across the North East and Cumbria. It's been going for years, every now and then Sunderland is going to be shown in a bad light because unfortunately, we do have our fair share of knackers who like to make a load of noise.
It's not biased against Sunderland, just a fairly low budget, low rent 'current affairs' show and we happen to be the focus this week.

Edit: Next week is about rough sleepers in Newcastle

It's unsubstantial rubbish and it has been acknowledged for years the mainly Newcastle based local media has been biased against Sunderland and will always look for ways to portray us in a bad light.

Gammons being exploited by much more divisive and clever manipulators. As soon as the Sunderland Brexit vote was aired in the national media with pictures of cheering voters, the campaign to utilise them began.

Well there are extremists in every party.
Look at the left wing of Labour.
They're hardly extreme. A bit deluded, but not they don't take it that far.

So you don't think the respective results from each city might have played a part in that?

By who? People with chips on their shoulders.

By people who take issue with programs like the one to be broadcast tonight.

The bias as regards to the football pales into insignificance but there is also a clear bias there as has been determined by virtually everyone on here. We have Jeff Brown as a representative - then who. Marco? Who openly derides us/doesn't support us/wants us to get beat against teams he does support and doesn't even bother to watch the games or pay us the slightest interest. Complained against by our fans but still keeps his position.

Have you got the figures relating to those?
Not off the top of my head but they were quoted on the R4 program last week a few second places and iirc the BNP polled 28% in one election. I'll be honest when it was presented as a list I was surprised and Im not naive regarding some of the attitudes in the north east...... it was one of the reasons I left 30 odd yrs ago

When was this - what bollocks. The BNP hasn't even gained 1 % of the vote in the past in Sunderland. They don't even field any candidates up here anymore. Absolute fantasy land.

 I missed that vote.
Jeff Brown aside, in Roker alone there are one BBC reporter and two ITV. One posts almost daily on Twitter about how great Sunderland is. I'll ask again, why would these people who love where they live, choose to work for an organisation that plots against them and what motive is there for these organisations to alienate a large chunk of their target audience?

I don't like Sunderland being shown in a bad light any more than you but it is not biased. As I highlighted, next week is about rough sleepers in Newcastle, seems fairly balanced to me.

They know what they're looking for if they're going to Jamesons during the day though. It's all to fit the narrative rather than look for some balance. Closer to entertainment than reporting imo.
That I agree with, but as I say the referendum set the scene, and future dialogue.
I live in a rural area which voted leave, and the local TV still really only interview people from those very rural farming areas of the constituency. My actual town is much more remain leaning.

Let's not forget Newcastle were 51% remain 49% leave, not exactly decisive when you consider how much they've received in European funding
Hadn't realised that it was that tight.

So there isn't a bias in the sports media at all that hasn't been highlighted on here on numerous occasions/almost daily?

Glad you think it's funny generally as someone who does local work to promote Sunderland when you have programs that can be seen nationwide portraying it as a hotbed of extremism and some sort of political landscape that firmly insular towards anyone else. So they are completely independent and do not follow instruction from above? Why would they care if they alienate some of their target audience - it's tax payer funded anyway so they can have their cake and eat it whilst have a laugh and pisstake.

Definite similarity between rough sleepers and threatening to behead a public figure as well.

Saw it on look North , not much of a report , although it’s on for half hour at 730 so maybe more interesting

It will show 2 or 3 divies with extreme views.
Sunderland is no different from any other town or city up and down the country.

I don't find the show funny, it's pathetic that we have such people in the city, but they exist, you only have to look on this board or on the FB Echo comments. Maybe focus your anger towards them rather than the people who highlight that they exist, no matter how much of a non story it is.
I find the overreaction of you and your sidekick hilarious. You have no evidence of bias, just a massive chip on your shoulder.
I do loads to promote Sunderland and programmes like this don't help. The constant whinging and comparisons to Newcastle don't help either.
I'm not going to change your mind so I'll leave you to your misplaced rage.
