SMB Tennis thread (note there is a specific Wimbledon 22 thread)

Nishikori beats 39 year old karlovic in a 5 set epic. Can't see him having much left for the later stages given his first two matches.
Wawrinka 1-1 in sets with raonic

Wawrinka into his 4th tiebreaker

Raonic wins

There were some very entertaining men's matches. Karlovic did well to come back and was a mini break up in that super tie break so he'll be kicking himself. Also thought Zverev was going to blow that again like against Gulbis in the final set at Wimbledon, but he recovered well, helped that Chardy didn't have much left mind.

Didn't see any of the Djokovic match.

Not bad I was looking foward to Sharapova vs wozniaki but I think it's on to late even for me

Aye, just looking at the schedule now, probably looking at 4.30ish for that which is nothing nor something - too late for most to stay up and too early to get up. I was really hoping Sabalenka-Anisimova (or Sharapova) started at 12am as I can justify staying up to 2/3 so could have saw it live. Barty-Sakkari is the only women's match at that time. Not sure whether to watch that or have a rare early night.

I'm a big fan of Muguruza and went into this match not minding who won, but I do feel a bit deflated now, so I guess I did actually Konta to win - or perhaps it's just because one had to lose. What a match though, the best match of the tournament by far, certainly on the women's side anyway, just a shame there was very few left to see it at that crazy time. Think that's the best both have played since Wimbledon 2017 and hopefully Jo will be able to carry that through to the Middle East and US March swing and get herself back into the seeds by FO / Wimbledon. Great level throughout and well done Garbine - just hope that doesn't cost her going forward.

On a brighter note, I did get my first coupon up of the week and am into profit @chopsfc007

Crazy mate.
Sounds encouraging for both, it would be good to have Muguruza back in the mix.

Also, have you been doing that William Hill, wheel spin thing that's been going these past few days? You basically get one spin a day and there's cash prizes, free spins etc. I got '1 free spin' on the slots today and got an apparent 'big win', it was only £4.08 or something, but not bad for being absolutely free and will be an unexpected bonus bet for later.

No luck so far looking at the games later only seems value in the women's games unless you fancy upsets.

Aye, it was far better yesterday (more match choice obviously). I had a £2 free bet 6 fold on and it returned just under £19. Yastremska (8/13), Venus and Fognini (both 4/7) boosted it a bit as a lot are like 1/4 or shorter so doesn't add much value. I mean Kerber is 1/14 today so no real point, Barty 1/5 etc.

Pavyluchenkova at 6/5 looks OK, so might put that on with a few 4/9 types , but I'll properly look later on.

Shwartzman is 3/1 to beat berdych which is tempting might look at the doubles as well

The Aussies will be loving that RLA schedule. Their biggest hope on the women's side (and overall), followed by Fed, then 2 huge names and former Aussie Open champs in a real hard to call match. Then later on their new kid on the block going up against Nadal in a slam again, and finally a nothing to lose match for the local wildcard against another former champ and 2nd favourite.

Seppi was (and probably still is) good value to beat Tiafoe, odds have shortened in the last few hours to probably what they should be close to though. Trying to stay up for the first few sets of that because it could be a cracker.

Rafa looking very very good.
Small shock in kachanov getting beaten.
Federer v tsitipas & Nadal v berdych. Two tough 4th round matches

Still can’t see past Djokovic but if Nadal can keep fit he will certainly give him a game, look how close it was at the semis of Wimbledon last year and that was on Nadal’s weakest surface. Said at the time but the 12/1 I got for Nadal on Smarkets at the start of the tournament was certainly way overpriced and a bit of an insult.

Pretty eventful day. Sharapova rolling back the years, thought she was done when she lost the 2nd set, but she upped her game in the 3rd. Stunned by Anisimova's level there, she was absolutely superb. I'm not sure if can keep that level for the rest of the tournament, but it obviously bodes very well for the future. She's actually moved into 16/1 at Paddy Power. Kvitova up next (who AA beat in straight sets at Indian Wells). Would love to see Yastremska do something similar tonight against Serena, but I'm not too hopeful.

Quite surprised Khachanov lost, especially in straight sets with RBA having successive 5 setters previously and I thought he might have gone furthest here out of the 'Next Gen' lot. Good to see Tiafoe build on that Anderson win and Federer-Tsitsipas should be interesting. Nadal looked very good.

What a talent anisimova is

She was unreal. I used my last remaining free bet balance and added Sharapova and Collins to Pavyluchenkova, but also included Sabalenka (4/9) as well. The other 3 were underdogs so wish I left it at that, was 19/1.

Makes it so much more interesting when you have a talented youngster bursting on the scene and especially being American, she could be huge commercially.

Hopefully Shapovalov will at least test Djokovic tonight and maybe get a set.

Quite surprised they've gone for Giorgi-Pliskova over Halep-Venus on Laver. Pleased Garbine in on not before 7pm Melbourne time to give her plenty of time to recover:
