VARguments

Except the refs have decided that offside is a black and white decision, like goal line technology. The obvious mistake thing doesn't apply to offside decisions (which they regard as a matter of fact, not opinion). Not saying I necessarily agree with that, but that is what the officials have decided to implement.

Well nobody in the motd studio thought it was offside. So it’s not factual is it? I understand your point but the reason for the offside rule was not for this.

In cricket every wicket is reviewed. Starting with no ball, did it hit the bat/ glove, height, line, lbw.

Overturned if factually incorrect otherwise it’s umpires call. Works well in cricket as it’s a slow game that lasts for 5 days.

But is this what we want in football? Not for me. Regardless of whether the correct outcome was reached while the players lined up to kick off again, that was a mess. A farce. Terrible for the game

I understand what you are saying marra but if the decision was so black and white, why did it take a few minutes of watching it over and over again. A black and white decision should be almost instantaneous surely?

It's a bit like when they review a run out decision in cricket. Similarly held to be black and white, bit more often than not the third umpire will look at multiple reviews before making his mind up.

And is that more important than correct and fair decisions?

Yes definitely. Football is a living breathing thing - things go wrong sometimes. It's not a video game.
We're talking here about someones foot being offside ffs. The worst decisions were the ones that incorrectly ruled off a goal for not crossing the line - we've sorted that and should leave it there.

Why? Perfectly good decision. I don’t understand what the commentator is twisting about, unless he’s got a bet on Derby.

The right decision has been found. Better to wait 30 seconds than a team get a goal wrongly allowed.

Looked on to me.. Saints players arm was in line with Derby players foot.. Its ridiculous really, whatever happened to the attacker being given the benefit of the doubt for calls like this.

It’s inevitable that it comes in.

In 20 years time it will be looked upon how ridiculous it was to leave it to just human eye

No it won't. We'll look back at full grounds full of passionate fans and wish we could turn back time.

Yep, VAR got it wrong.

Problem is mate things do go wrong, and if people and fans just accepted that it would not be too much of a problem.

But they clearly don’t, apparently when mistakes are made refs are cheats, favour big clubs, love themselves, incompetent and I could go on and on.

They clearly need help that is obvious,

The problem is people want it both ways, don’t want VAR, but then twist like fuck when a decision does not go their way.

If people don’t want VAR then they need accept they may be on the wrong end of decision, because without it mistakes are inevitable all the evidence shows that.

That's just a daft partisan reaction we all have at times, not something that fundamentally disrupts your enjoyment of (potentially) every game.

I know some massive moaners including myself but I've never known anyone stop going to games because of referees, this genuinely has the potential to change that.
