VARguments

No it won't. People like me will still be watching non-league football and moaning about shit refereeing decisions. The way it should be.

Disagree entirely ask someone to use the same tools to do a job they had 100 years ago, then twist when they make the inevitable mistake!

That's just a daft partisan reaction we all have at times, not something that fundamentally disrupts your enjoyment of (potentially) every game.

I know some massive moaners including myself but I've never known anyone stop going to games because of referees, this genuinely has the potential to change that.

You see it as daft partisan because you sensible, too many fans are not!

You only need to read the threads after the game on Saturday to realise that

You kept saying the refs made the decision, not VAR. The ref didn't make the decision then, nor did he make it in the cup ties the other week. He never even saw the incidents again.

love to have this answered ^^^^ anyone? we were told over and over that the VAR ref 'advises' or 'alerts' the ref, but the on pitch ref always has final decision. that is utter bollocks.

I was one of them, I thought Probert was shite, obviously not to the extent of any kind of fixing against us but still....

Again though it's back to the attenders, even if they made those claims it was probably in anger and wouldn't stop them going next week.

I'd honestly have to reconsider going if every goal was going to be reviewed like that, it's horrible.

Maybe it's just a reflection of which fans are considered more valuable now.

The problem is people want it both ways, don’t want VAR, but then twist like fuck when a decision does not go their way.

If people don’t want VAR then they need accept they may be on the wrong end of decision, because without it mistakes are inevitable all the evidence shows that.

perfectly fine with me. its part of the game, always has been. its a game played by human beings, and officiated by human beings. as much as i hate refs, i hate VAR 10x more.

That how var works. It assists. The final decision rests with the onfield official.

Do you bet on horse racing?

100% this. its the very essence of the game.

1) clearly not, as the ref tonight, and the other day, didn't watch the replays. they were told over the earphone. the on field ref didn't make the final decision

2) no.
He does. As it was an offside decision that is down to proven fact. If it a subjective decision, var offers assistance and he can confirm his opinion or choose to change his mind.

A flies eyebrow offside, is still offside

Do it for one you need to do it for all, no argument against it once it starts.
Not how it’s being used.

Which games is VAR used in? I'm sure the mags scored a goal last night that was offide (the 3rd?) so are they just using it in random FA Cup games?

clearly not, as even after 50 replays, loads on here, the commentators, and the pundits at half time said that it wasn't 100%, due to angles of the camera. unless the camera is at exactly 90 degrees to the last man, its impossible to say 100%

also, what about that penalty decision? that was subjective but he didn't look at the replay. he held the corner back for 20 seconds whilst waiting to be told whether it was a foul or not.

Now we have VAR, how about doing away with offside in the penalty area, both for passes completed within the area, and free kicks into the area? It’d make the game much more exciting, create more goals and do away with this ‘was his hair playing his laces offside’ bollocks?

Just wondering.
