It hasn’t though because Donald has stated he still wants to get him to sign a contract so it’s still going to drag on. The deadline has done nothing but make half our fans hate a player because they feel rejected in the middle of a crucial season.

He has made a decision he has thought is correct to benefit the club. He needs the club to be successful after the monies invested. As a club, JR has a choice to play the lad.

But, it also gives the club to generate interest and a potential bidding war. If there is lots of interest, we have to accept and agree bids to let other clubs speak to the agent

This way if we lose the player, we might get a better than average recompense. Think the management have called it right myself, but my sole opinion and we will perhaps have differing points of view.

This is about more though in reality, it is also about getting some control back at the club and negating agents a little. This will also make buying clubs, think about dealing with the Snake Oil Agent .

After all he will have form, of going behind a clubs back to sell their player. If done it once, he could do it again.

I don’t know the ins and outs, just my opinion from afar. I would like to see us get the best players in red &’white shirts we can onto the pitch. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose, it’s a fine balance. This one we lost.

I get that...but we didn’t lose by being cheap or changing the goal posts. We lost because this agent dicked is around (and maybe her client as well). But to say this will effect agents dealing with us in the future is malarkey. We acted in good faith with the player.

Said the same for ages, there's no need for them anyway the PFA will represent players if it's a necessity, they could have an agent for outside sponsorship etc but they should have nothing to do with contract situations, just ban them.
I agree with the sentiment, marra, but I think to try to ban them might be held by court or tribunal to be an illegal restraint of trade. It needs sorting, one way or another. Proper, accountable regulation backed by a detailed Code of Practice might be a decent start....

“Right Josh. Sign a contract by Friday or else”

“Or else what?”

“I’ll continue to try and persuade you to sign a new contract”

But 3 weeks for bids to come in acceptable to the club. Could sell him and keep him here till Summer. Some power now with the club.

We should already have a list of replacements. We should just be starting to look now. If we were organized we would have already complied replacements for every position. Especially ones where the player could leave soon.

How do you know they haven't?

They would come in regardless though if sides wanted him now so doesn’t make much difference really. It’s possibly forced their hand to sell him now rather than keep him till summer.

Or he signs a pre contract agreement with a European club any time from now, safc get nothing in compensation, can't sell him or force him to go before then, he gets a bigger wage due to the new club not having to pay a fee and his agent gets a bigger amount too.
In that scenario, absolutely no power with the club

I’m not saying they haven’t. I would presume they have. I just don’t think a deadline would make any difference to identifying them already.

I just want to be on record...I still have hope this gets squared away. I hope Maja still gets in the lineup and I still hope he’s with us till end of season. ;)

This all day long

The agent has played a blinder. Gone to sky started a bidding war no doubt and they have a full month to pick and choose who to milk for the most cash.

None of us know what his salary is. The 700% raise quotes are suspicious to me because they sound a lot but what's his starting salary.

Maja is a young kid who will go where the money is. That's football and the game as it is.

Stewart and the gang have to pick up the pieces but if Maja had been tied down to a contract in the summer none of this would have happened. who would have guessed he would be top scorer at this stage? he was unproven a few months ago.

just another legacy of mismanagement in the past that the new owners sadly have to face. it is what it is.

hopefully the fans don't get on his back until he actually leaves. 3 big fixtures coming up and we need him

His conversion rate is fairly phenomenal mind. It’s losing that that is my concern as we still don’t create as many chances as other sides.
Agreed, but could that be because he doesn’t help the team in the build up.
Goal scoring is important obviously but so is having people create chances in the first place.
I suppose it’s a balancing act to see if someone comes in and helps us have 10 more chances a game but only has a 1 in 10 shot conversion rate.
As others have pointed out it’s not like he’s the runaway top goal scorer. Plenty of people can score goals at this level.
I’d rather he stayed but Wyke could easily become our main striker.
