Well at least we know now Maja couldn’t give a toss about SAFC and is playing us for his own personal gain. That’s his prerogative, fair enough, but I don’t want to see him line up for us again.

About £1m at most.

Remember he can sign a pre contract with a foreign club today if he wants for no compensation to Sunderland.

Does that still go to tribunal if he goes overseas or do we get nothing? I think we’d get more than a million at a tribunal so would put a £3m price tag on his head. Unless he has a change of heart he can’t play for us again, which is a pisser. Club could have played it differently and he could have played out the season and bagged 30 goals (thus increasing the tribunal fee -if he still wanted to leave)

The agent has played a blinder. Gone to sky started a bidding war no doubt and they have a full month to pick and choose who to milk for the most cash.

None of us know what his salary is. The 700% raise quotes are suspicious to me because they sound a lot but what's his starting salary.

Maja is a young kid who will go where the money is. That's football and the game as it is.

Stewart and the gang have to pick up the pieces but if Maja had been tied down to a contract in the summer none of this would have happened. who would have guessed he would be top scorer at this stage? he was unproven a few months ago.

just another legacy of mismanagement in the past that the new owners sadly have to face. it is what it is.

hopefully the fans don't get on his back until he actually leaves. 3 big fixtures coming up and we need him

I don’t know why his agent would leak he rejected a 700% wage rise (although I think he’s on less than people think).

It’s more of a thing a club would leak (to show fans the extent they went to keep him) though I’m not saying we have.

I wonder how much Ayr want for Shankland ?
Swansea reportedly had a deal for £200k plus extras rejected. Been a few other rumours, but from my reading of the Ayr stuff it seems they would want £400k and up, simply due to the financial boost they would get from promotion.

Think Donald said we would only get a few hundred thousand from a tribunal (I read that on here though so take with a pinch of salt).

£750 a week currently and offered about £5k which is an average league one wage which I don’t think is that attractive. However, if that’s what agent initially asked for and if that’s what they’ve offered then it’s poor from Maja and / or his people and the club aren’t to blame.

That said, I still don’t the upper echelons have handled this well in the slightest.

Sky have said it's just under £10k per week.

I think this is one point on which most posters will agree marra. The problem is what to do about it. For me, if clubs got together & decided it should either become common practice or better still regulatory requirement that players (not clubs) pay agents, this may go some way towards alleviating the problem. It's the commingling of terms of the player contract with club & separate player contract with agent that seems to give rise to putting agents in a position whereby they are able to exert undue influence on players. That's my thought on it, for the little it's worth!

Good call, Agents have too much power because clubs allow them to. Players to pay agents out of their salaries as a percentage. Removes some of the power.

Should be a 50/50 split so players and agents do not hold clubs to ransom. If you look at most working men's wages a player on £2000.00 a week even is a lot more than a lot of supporters.

Yes, but they have short careers, but think about it no jobs for life now. They get a bloody good income and deserve it for entertainment. But it not as if they are saving lives.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone blame the club for the contract offer (unless I’ve missed something). Given we’ve matched wages (and his agent seems to be trying to tout him in the media) I think there must be more to it that than, though I’ve thought that all along.

Sky sports reckon even with a 700% pay rise he would still be on less than £10k a week which would be peanuts for any premier league club to pay
