Clamping down on the morning after drivers

I don't see a difference. You know when you've had a skinful and if you can't make a judgement that you're posing a threat to yourself and everyone else you encounter on your drive then you shouldn't even have a license, let alone be allowed to drive that day. You drank heavily the night before, there is still alcohol in your system which is impairing your ability to drive safely. It really is as simple as that.
Having googled the guidance, you can assume a strong pint is 3 units nowadays. A drink takes an hour to get into your blood stream and then the average person takes an hour to metabolize a unit.

If you have ten pints over a 5 hour session, you wouldn't be safe to drive for another 24 hours (26 units in your system at the end of the session.) Is zero policy poloxkng the best policy then? If you want to drink, Don't drive is OK. If you want a session, Don't drive the next day is probably an OK policy, but people need to be told this, before they get pulled.

If you haven't seen this advice over the last decade, you're probably beyond the scope of where they are likely to advertise.

Mebbes they should upload YouTube videos and plaster the links all over Twitter / Instagram / Facebook to hit the wider audience? Snapchats of people after their cars have crashed into the back of a school bus and they've gone through the windscreen that wipe after 60 seconds?

These people are intelligent enough to both pass a driving test and to earn enough money to be able to nip out occasionally for 10 pints.

Why do they need their hand holding?

What is a typical Friday night session Dave?
Bottle of wine, maybe 8 pints of strong ale, house spirit nightcap.

Im afraid so Dave, thats the way it is. Just to try stop you killing other people and that, I know its a pain.
I can drive perfectly well the afternoon after. I’ve accidentally driven the morning after pissed before and it was terrifying. They are world’s apart.

So you moderate every single session in case you need to drive in the next 48 hours do you?
If you're boozing over a 10 hour period the first 10 units will be put your system before you're even out of the pub.
If you've got your numbers right for 48 hours it's really only 38. If you can handle the 24 pints required to have 48 units in your system you'll probably break it down faster than most too. It sounds like you should buy yourself some breathalyser kits

Not like Herbal to light the blue touch paper mind

If you are over the limit, then you shouldn't be driving. It's irrelevant whether it's the night before or the morning after.

I don't get how it's less of an issue for someone who's over the limit the next day and heading into work?
Go and have 10 pints then try playing a driving video game. You can’t stay on the track.
Then go to bed for 8 hours and try the same game again. You can easily stay on the track and even win races. Do you see?

Should do it all year around. Maybe the message might get though then.
They do it in Australia, or certainly around Perth. Minor irritation while they block the road and pull all the cars in, but a good idea as it sets the tone. There's signs up saying what the police are clamping down on this week. Could be speeding, seatbelt use, drink-driving.

do the police do these mass breath tests on a night time, it’s only the morning stings that seem to get highlighted. I’m a subscriber to “the law is the law” and I try and keep an eye on what I drink if driving the next day. But, doing them at night would surely catch the truly spannered drivers and not just people with a mild hangover. Granted both are illegal but the former is more dangerous but likely less prevalent so not as good for the statistics.

I reckon a night time one set up like a day time one would trigger a panic and result in more injuries or even deaths. They'd need pursuit vehicles aplenty. It would be a nightmare to resource and implement.

All IMO, of course.

I'd be canny annoyed if someone killed my mam or dad whilst over the limit the following morning tbh.
It's just a laugh driving the day after a skinful IIRC. I saw a smilie on the opening post suggesting this.

Same here. I'd probably not feel as bad if they could win a couple of laps of F1 or GTA on the PS4 tho.
If they could, they’d be unlikely to cause an accident now wouldn’t they? Well maybe not GTA , you can probably play that pissed ok. But F1 or GT are simulators and therefore a good representation.
