“My player will never play for Sunderland again”

Agents and players have far too much control over a club. How many other jobs can you pick and choose what you do in your role? If I walked in on Monday and said I wasn't going to do my job, I'd be disciplined.
You are talking about people with the abilities to do something that a tiny proportion of the country, if not the planet, are able to perform at. So your comparison is meaningless.

However, let's say you knew you were guaranteed to get another job at a better firm, almost regardless of what you do, then you have power and can do whatever you want.

Anybody who does something specialist, that very few people can do are in a similar position; doctors (well, American ones, pretty sure British ones too, they could all leave the country if they wanted to, or go private), lawyers (particularly corporate ones), high level traders...............

Of the players who've said they (or their agents) want to leave I think we'd have possibly 2 or 3 who'd be no problem and do what's expected of them.
It's only becuase Donald is making these statements that people are up in arms, people would have expected it and not batted an eyelid otherwise.

At the end of the day, it's the clubs's desperate desire to succeed, whatever that is to get the Premier League money. As I said yesterday, when we signed people like Kenwyne Jones after he went on strike at Southampton and forced a move, we as fans turned a blind eye. Yes agents are twats and a leach on money in football, but the clubs make this inevitable chasing rainbows and not giving a fuck about anybody else either.

People go on about how some 20 year old millionaire, trained all of their life to do what they are told and follow instruction should do the opposite and "stand up to be counted" or whatever it is they think they should do, blame the agents and whatever else. If they clubs stopped f***ing each other over and all agreed to stop dealing with the more shady agents, then maybe it would get better.

Of course you have the problem that if the English clubs do that, then the foreign teams won't and they'll have an edge over the better players. Then so it goes, flowing down from the top. FIFA can't even back down from the corrupt decision to have the World Cup in Qatar with 7 years notice between almost all of their apparent problem executives being arrested and the event it's self, never mind the whole morality/ slave labour issue. So getting them to sort it out seems like it's never going to happen.

I take a simpler view. who is the agent there for. whose wage is he negotiating.

The player. So therefore the player should pay him / her

I agree it has to come from FIFA to be a world wide ruling and their corrupt practices in the past does not fill anyone with hope

f***ing hell :) :)

Jeremain Marciano Lens (born 24 November 1987) is a Dutch professional footballerwho plays for Turkish club Beşiktaş and the Netherlands national team. He is a versatile attacking player, known for his pace and stamina, primarily being used as a winger or a striker, but he can successfully play as a second striker.

hopefully this is true

Beşiktaş[edit]
On 6 August 2017, Beşiktaş signed Lens on loan, with the option of a permanent transfer afterwards.[13] He scored his debut goal for the club in a 2–2 draw against Trabzonspor. Playing as a replacement for Ricardo Quaresma, he managed to find the net in the 58th minute of the match.[14] On 7 June 2018, it was confirmed that Lens had signed permanently for Beşiktaş.
Pace and stamina i dont recognise that discription of lens. By memory of him is standing on the half way line at Bournemouth while his full back over lapped and kept leaving Billy Jones with 2 players to pick up .

Force the issue. Name them in the first matchday squad and team. If they don't play, sack them for breach of contract.

He has already explained what will happen........They either come back to training and play or if they refuse to play we will not be paying them but will hold onto their registrations meaning they will not be able to play for another club. He has them over a barrel

Which is what they want.......good to shift the wages, but we lose a fee....

We dont because as he said in the podcast, if they refuse to return we dont pay them but we keep their registration as they care contracted to us and they cant play elsewhere. Lets see how that sits with them.

I don't think it matters myself. The clubs and the players look at the total cost right, so if they pay 1m for a 10m player, the player gets more money upfront etc. So net, whether you say an agent gets 10% of the 10m transfer fee, or pay 9m transfer fee, give the player 1.5m signing on fee and he gives the 1m to the agent, the total cost of the deal won't change. It's just a book-keeping term to me.

Like I said on another thread, these players seem to absolve themselves of any part of the clubs demise.

Like a petty criminal or guilty child bleating "it's not my fault"

Donald did this interview days ago, how the fuck are people still posting new threads about it, never mind how are they not getting the basics of it right. Donald left no ambiguity about which player he was talking about, yet it took until you to point out who he was talking about.
He said McNair’s agent said he won’t okay for the Club again but he also said a foreign player’s agent said he won’t come back to the Club, which amounts to the same thing.

I agree with him making these comments tbh. Whilst we want these high earners gone we can't be a soft touch and cave in.
Who knows what's gone on, seems to me like there is a large amount of saying what people want to hear. The fans liked it under Quinn, so whatever, if it keeps people interested........I don't really know how comfortable I am that he's divulging private conversations with agents to the public, hopefully souring relationships won't harm the club. So far, that's all we've really seen that's different, that kind of interview. That and a lot of talk.

I think they are playing the game but also letting the agents and players know they can’t take the piss like they have previously. Its nice to see we won’t be a soft touch any more.

It also wouldn’t surprise me if they make an example of 1 player should they / their agent take the piss too much

My point was two pronged; this has already been discussed in numerous threads and the second was the OP and the next posters were implying this statement was about Cattermole as they all have a chip on their shoulder about it.

Donald almost word for word said what the OP did, so not so many words isn't as potent as.......so many words. Think Donald was talking about Khazri then right, I don't think anybody expects he'll be here next season.........
