New Music Releases Thread

I have the day off tomorrow, and plan to do a shitload of gardening (stain decking; paint shed, playhouse and summerhouse; cement in the kids’ swing; spread weedkiller in the front) which means I’ll have pretty much a full day of listening to music.

Can you all please recommend some releases I may have missed this year. As you know, I’m mainly into American punk, hard rock, quirky indie-pop, indie rock, alt-country and a bit of hiphop.

I’m also off Friday, but expect my day to be taken up with Neko Case, The Corps and Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johannson

Anyone into indie-rock/pop. Check out new album released last week Build a Tower by The Slow Readers Club. Likened to 1st album Killers and Interpol.

On second full proper listen, I’m upgrading my arctic monkeys review from great to superb.
I’m loving it me. 4 our of 5 and tranquility base hotel are absolutely superb.

Listened to it six times. It's really good. Couple of nothing tunes aside I'm very impressed.

So, listened to a few new albums so far this weekend...

Arctic Monkeys: think I agree with the consensus on this thread. It's very good indeed... only slight criticism would be that it's a tad one paced.

For me that's part of its appeal. Its a concept album, with a selection of songs, with a constant tempo and mood, that allows it all to knit together really well.

I thought the Neko Case album wasn't out for another couple of weeks. And, Kacy & Clayton...

Yeah 1st June as is Pete and Scarlett, I’ve got myself very confused. That’s a shame - looks like Ash and Stephen Malkmus instead then so I’m open to extra suggestions.

Next week, Ryley Walker and Courtney Barnett's albums should both be good. Ray LaMontagne's may be superb or a bit dull... Parquet Courts also.

Beach House delivered once again.

It's my first listen tomorrow...

From that one song it sounds like they really want to be an electronic version of Interpol.

Based on a couple of things you’ve said I’d still maybe say give Frank Turner a go, but probably not the new album. Give some of the early stuff a crack for the alt folk/folk punk vibe.
