New Music Releases Thread

Still the Monae album for me.

Second week in and it's being outsold by Rumours.

Her lack of megastardom utterly baffles me.

Verdict on the AM new record? Still haven't heard it yet, but listened to two songs off it and the signs are surprisingly good.
I turned it off after one song

Trying to give it another go now and im struggling to get much further in. Just not for me.

This

I tend to give a record four or five listens right through as often the better albums come up on the rails IMO. Suppose you can tell if you'll simply not like it no matter what.
Apart from their first album ive not liked any of there albums straight away so ill try and listen all the way through

Just finished a proper listen and I think it’s great. A really nice move on from AM which I also thought was great.

I had one listen yesterday out of interest and thought it was okay, will listen again today. Getting a lot of joy out of people who want another debut and are fuming at this. Bet they love The Enemy and Noel Gallagher as well.

They won't love Noel Gallagher anymore. The meltdown over his new album was brilliant.

It's a combo of Metacritic's upcoming album releases page and an Amazon wishlist I keep of albums I'm interested in listening to. The latter is largely derived from Uncut's album reviews so a lot of stuff doesn't get properly covered.

Edit: I missed the new Mark Kozelek album being released today...
Have I ever mentioned that he’s a prick?

It’s standard Kozelek anyway

this for me, I no longer look good on the dancefloor but can see myself listening to this with a glass of something nice in front of the fire, I bet they're enjoying the outrage

On second full proper listen, I’m upgrading my arctic monkeys review from great to superb.
I’m loving it me. 4 our of 5 and tranquility base hotel are absolutely superb.

So, listened to a few new albums so far this weekend...

Arctic Monkeys: think I agree with the consensus on this thread. It's very good indeed... only slight criticism would be that it's a tad one paced.
Luke Haines: he continues to plough his own furrow. Very short songs (only 'At It with the Tree Surgeons Wife' breaks the 3 minute barrier). Songs about suburbia, the countryside, dogging and busty middle aged women basically. Quite folky at times!
Jess Williamson: excellent! A little bit Cat Power, a little bit Mazzy Star.
Yonatan Gat: intriguing! Used to be the guitarist in Israeli garage rockers Monotonix. This is a world away from them. Primarily instrumental with chants and tribal vocals over the top. Well worth a listen.
Aidan Moffat and RM Hubbert: Moffat's on top form lyrically as he sort of speak-sings his song poems over Hubbert's mix of post-rock and jazz.
Birds of Chicago: not sure I'm quite as enamoured with this as I was with their EP from the back end of last year. Folky, bluesy, countryish. Good songs but doesn't sound quite as raw as the EP did.
