People were wrong about Short ...

Well thats a daft question. It will all come out over the next few months, it has to. Why would it take 5yrs for the details of a takeover of 1 of the biggest clubs in england to come out ? Its impossible.
Anything like this would show up at Companies house in our annual statement, It would be a line item somewhere, and if not it would be a hell of a lot of money to illegally launder

Don’t get it, he would write off millions of pounds of debt but wouldn’t invest a couole extra million to keep the club in the division.

Decent of him but yet more bewildering bad running of the club.

Regardless of age,

Short overseen the worst period in our history. Thank fuck he’s gone, he’s done more harm than good.

Fuck him, get rid of Bain and move on.

If we are truly debt free that's bloody brilliant, however, there is surely a catch ? Would be too good to be true, especially where this club is concerned.

, don't lose hope

I was wrong, I admit it. I thought he would take every parachute payment then stick us in administration. He did a very noble and decent thing writing off all the debt. Still his fault for where we are though.

But the argument was always that administration didn't benefit him at all given he was one of if not the main person the debt was owed to, plus his stake in the club which with administration would have been in the balance. The only people who would were SBC if we weren't making repayments on the debt and covering wages etc. Therefore it was always in Shorts interests to make those payments so he could maybe recoup something for the club or the debt owed to him.

OK so it turns out he's probably recouped next to fuck all and he'd maybe have been better off pocketing the parachute payments, however if he did that the club would have been in administration sometime in the season just gone or the shit would have hit the fan in some other way when wages, loan interest or clubs owed transfer money wasn't paid. I think some got caught up hating him for the mess the club was in without looking at it logically.

Seems like they have a fairly healthy discussion going to me.

Surely what the forum is about.

Apart from the few foul mouthed shouty types I'd say this is a fair exchange of views by various interested parties.

Of course I was a little provocative with the OP but it's all my honest opinions.

So, you don't believe he's left the club debt free now ... fair enough.

My question is 'if nothing comes out in the next few months, to contradict that, you'll believe what he's said?'
That wasnt your question tho. Your question was within 5yrs. It will all come out when the consortioum is confirmed which wont take 5yrs.

No sorry Short was a disaster. Incompetent appointments - not once but several times. Did he ever ask any football people for advice because I know I would have. Yes he wrote off the debt but he and his appointments were responsible for that debt. We need to move on and I just hope the new people are more football savvy.

.... and it's killing them.

There must have been dozens of posters who vehemently insisted Short had a plan to take the club into administration and 'thereby line his pockets' or whatever. Even logical replies by people who understand finance, such as @Grumpy Old Man, were dismissed out of hand by people who 'knew better'.

I suspect this is the reason for so many of these 'I bet there are hidden clauses from Short and we'll be paying him for years' threads.

I've seen people claiming all kinds of dirty tricks regarding the takeover that will come back to haunt us, they simply refuse to believe we're debt free.

FFS lads, just accept he's done the decent thing and has given us the chance to draw a line on the past. Going back over Short, Bain, Byrne, etc etc etc is destructive and part of the problem. It's often said, on here, that there's a self destructive attitude from people who just happy clap and accept shit ..... so why don't those people look on the bright side, for once, and accept this opportunity to rebuild the club in the right way, just a thought.

Jeeezus, what a like fest :) ;)

Ps - good post

OK, let's go back to what you originally said .....

" .... im not going to just believe hes wrote off 100 and odd mil just cause he says so.
It will all come out eventually and until it does ill be very sceptical about shorts exit."

Then you said " It will all come out over the next few months, it has to. "

So, if it doesn't come out about the '100 and odd mil', in the next few months, will you believe Short?

If not, what's your deadline for 'it all coming out'?

Jesus, in my 35 years of supporting us its only know becoming apparent that some fans are continuley looking back and spouting doom is the normal thing.

Ellis short bought out the Irish when the cash ran out and we were fucked, He then pumped a ton of cash into the club to try and get us well established in the premier league, He appointed managers the vast majority wanted and also sacked managers the vast majority wanted, He tried new approaches again that were welcomed and he stopped new approaches that the vast majority wanted.

People clamour to be back in the premier league? For What? To spend a fortune we can't afford avoiding relegation and finishing somewhere in the top half of the league? To know that the top 6 is a closed shop unless you spunk millions of pounds on mercenary players that will leave as soon as they can for a bigger pay check?

Did he make fuck ups? Yes massive ones, has it cost him a lot of money? Yes it has, did he do it on purpose? Did he fuck.

Could he have spent a few million I January to stop us going down? Possibly but what would we have Got? Players on stupid money that will fuck off as soon as a better offer comes in or just not play no matter what.

Im grateful he gave it a go, I'm more grateful he has admitted he got it wrong and wrote of the debt and is selling to someone else with enough tile to plan for the future
