Cars v Cyclists - New Fines

Why the fuckers use the road where is a perfectly good cycle path there is beyond annoying..

Because most cycle paths aren't fit for purpose

They really are! York is full of them and constantly weaving in and out of the cycle lanes. Saw another one get knocked down the other day.

I knocked a copper down once who was cycling, luckily she had a body cam on her because otherwise I'd have been fucked. I turned left and she just went straight into the car, she went f***ing mental, threatening arrest and all sorts but once another arrived and calmed her down they left it. Got a letter late apologising because you could clearly see I had an indicator on in the footage. The fact that they reviewed it means she probs wanted to press charges.

From what you have said you are in the wrong, if you are turning left then the onus is on you to ensure there are no other road users on your left

Those using the 'road tax' argument - cyclist emissions = zero. Just have a quick check and let me know what the cyclists would be paying.

Nah I'd already turned when she hit into me. I didn't turn into her. I had the indicator on signalling where I was going which she has to look out for

Bet she wasn’t impressed her own camera proved she was in the wrong.
They have to look out for indicators aswell.

My issue with cyclists, and I hear stories at work abut this shit all the time is that sometimes they are in the right, and yeah they do get priority and can squeeze up front amongst buses and lorries. But is it worth the risk, the person driving it can't see you sometimes. Is it really that bad starting a few cars back. And if you get hit, you could die, you could be crushed. Doesn't matter whos right then. I just wish more would apply some common sense and courteous behaviour as its their lives and injuries we are saving.

Agreed. If it takes 5 minutes to get round a cyclist, there are clearly other factors involved - road width, traffic going in the other direction, other vehicles going in the same direction etc.

Did you overtake then turn in front or were you already ahead of her?

Already ahead, I saw her in the wing mirror before I turned as well, you have to check on every corner where I live cos they are everywhere. I just assumed she would slow down as I'd been indicating since the previous set of traffic lights where I was going but she just ploughed on at the same speed.

Fair enough mate

She couldn't have been looking where she was going because she hit with a canny speed, she went across the boot to the other side of the car like. I was shitting it a bit with her being a copper but like I said if the cam footage showed I'd done something illegal you can bet she would have prosecuted. She was raging at the time.

Aye mate she must’ve been looking elsewhere, we’ve all done it mind but you wouldn’t dream of trying to drop someone else in the shite for your mistake.

It's probably cos my car at the time was a honda civic sport and she presumed I was a boy racer type being a dick on purpose. In reality the car was going cheap and I was wearing a suit but once shes started venting she couldn't back down. I mean fair play to the plod, they sent me a letter apologising.

Just sticking my point of view into the conversation.

I’m both a regular cyclist and driver. I share my commute between my car and my road bike and ensure I abide by the Highway Code when using both modes of transport.

I do see bad road use by the other. When cycling I ride at the fastest speed I can as to not slow down other users and I stay to side of the road as far as posisble without causing injury to myself. I ensure I ride safely and that other road users can see me and I’m respectful to motor vehicles.

I have experienced abuse which I feel has been unjustified and just inconsiderate behaviour just because I am a cyclist.

Conversely, I’ve witnessed bad cycling whilst driving, dangerous manoeuvres and abuse.

Basically I don’t label either type of road users all the same and it’s not a them and us situation.

We share the road all together. Some of the road layouts aren’t great and other problems add to the mix, such as abuse of no car lanes, lack of or abuse of cycle paths.

Tbf I've never seen a cyclist yell abuse at a car for being a car. I've been hit with apples, all manner of abuse, drinks etc just because I'm a cyclist.

London cyclists are a breed apart. It's getting worse by the day for the poor pedestrian (for once I'm not using the perspective of the car driver). Oi duffman what with you being a copper if I was to haul one off his bike for going through a red light and made a citizen's arrest on the fucker for breaking the law would your lot take it seriously?

Which knob ever buys a diesel car? Oh, you've answered my question.
Diesel is for tractors and vans and the likes.

Don't want to be a pedant but most tractors will be using gas oil....though of course if on public road it should be Derv ;)

Car drivers are always right. We have a personality transplant as soon as the engine starts, me included. Cyclists have a different dynamic, some are arseholes fair enough but it's a more dangerous world if someone makes a mistake. I've walked miles in London, seen the crazy cyclists down there and happened upon the emergency services digging a flat one out from under a lorry.

Anyway, car drivers don't own the roads just because of tax, same as we don't own the f***ing bus stops or the libraries so there's nee point getting all up a height about it. I don't know what my point is I'm just rattling on.

Red diesel only if it's a farmer though.

Red Diesel( gas oil) if agricultural use...general road hire/reward then should be using Derv.

A tractor going from one farm to another via public road would often be ignored, but say farmer doing some haulage work/hedge trimming/snow clearing on public roads would require Derv( white)
