SMB Tennis thread (note there is a specific Wimbledon 22 thread)

So another 4 months until the next slam but some big tournaments before then, particularly Indian Wells which starts in 6 weeks. I'll cut down on viewing the WTA international events (ATP 250) but will catch a lot of the below, particularly on the women's side. Reds are Master 1000s or the PM / P5 women's equivalents. Black are Premier / ATP 500s.

The French (and clay in general) is my least favourite slam / surface, but unlike Wimbledon and the other slams, play starts on the Sunday (27th May) and Monday 28th is a bank holiday, plus there is obviously play on the middle Sunday, so that's an extra 3 days where people can easily watch should they want to. ITV (mainly ITV4) and Eurosport will be covering it again this year.

Is the Davis Cup on TV or online? Tough tie, especially if Edmund isn't fit for it.

Website says BBC2 plus red button, which usually means online also. Don't Eurosport also tend to show our Davis Cup ties?

As has been mentioned, if Edmund isn't fit, we're not looking at a strong team (for singles at least) with Broady and Norrie as the two others currently in the team. If Nadal misses out for Spain, they'll still be picking two from Carreno Busta, Granollers, David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez, Verdasco, Ramos Vinolas and Bautista Agut.

No sign of it on Eurosport this year plus they didn't mention when wrapping up the other day, just FO and Wimbledon highlights.

Many were thinking Broady ahead of Norrie if Edmund was fine. He's had a decent run in a challenger event in France whereas Norrie's form has been poor since October. You wouldn't feel too confident if those 2 are leading the charge.

Broady has moved ahead in the rankings so I'd say it was likely. TBH, minus Edmund, I could only see us winning the doubles unless something very strange happens.

Didn't realise he had moved ahead, must have got some decent points for his SF run or Norrie has dropped a bit (or both). Apparently Liam is better on clay as well. I remember PCB dispatching Norrie pretty easily at the US Open.

Just had a quick check, looks like Norrie is still a bit ahead on 113 with Broady almost at a career high now but still a fair bit back on 162.

Have always prefered Wimbledon but used to love the French Open as well. But for me it was when Thomas Muster played, probably somewhere round the early or mid 1990s. I had a bit of a thing for him (and Jim Courier). I quite like how the players slide on the clay and also that the clay slows the game down a bit. I also like to think the French Open has fewer aces served per match but no idea if that can be backed up by anything. Just seems that way to me and never been a fan of players who pull off thirty+ aces a match the French Open suits me fine.
 
Norrie's just gone a double break up in the fourth set, looks like it's going to a decider. Some effort this from 2-0 down. Bautista Agut was 1/20 before the match and you couldn't even back him after the second set.

Superb performance no matter what happens from here. In Spain, on clay where he hardly ever plays and against someone ranked circa 20.

He was 4-2 up in the first set as well before losing 4 games straight.

Mind, you'd think GB was the home side going by the crowd reactions. In listening to the online coverage at work so can't see it but every point Norrie wins in greeted with massive applause.

Norrie ranked 629 his opponent must be ranked high
