Rian Johnson is writing and directing the next trilogy instead isn't he?
 
I wonder if the new film will see a whole different kind of rebel hardware, i.e. no x-wings. It seems that they have nothing left and have done away with most of the ships. Also they showed that x-wings come from arms dealers who sell to both sides. I hope not, the coolness of an x-wing was a symbol of my long ago youth.

Yes.....I'm not expecting it to be up to much and far more excited for the Obi-wan spin off, which starts shooting summer 2019.
 
I can't see that working too well. After the Empire rose, Obi Wan went into exile but in a position where he could keep an eye on the growing Luke Skywalker. We know a fair bit of his youth and his death, I'm not sure there is much more story to tell without trying to squeeze a lot of continuity problems in.
 
I have not seen anything about the film and went to see it tonight without seeing any reviews or anything.

It is an absolute mess of a film. There is so much in it. It goes on forever, but it is all filler. They could have cut 85% of the film and just paced it out a bit. Nothing makes any sense it. In the last film they were blowing up planets five at a time from the other side of the galaxy. Now lasers run out of steam before they hit your ship. Little ships go faster than bigger ships (does that even make sense?) All you have to do is just keep slightly ahead of the big spaceships and they can not touch you. It's bollocks.

The film starts with what amounts to a Spaceballs joke with the guy pretending he can not hear the guy on the phone. It is just utter dogshit. When they said they were going to the gambling planet I thought "oh, fuck, don't go there, it is going to be really boring" and yes it was. They just nip on a little spaceship and go sideways out of the chase (why can't everyone do that?) When they were galloping around on those creatures I realised I had no idea whatsoever what was going on.

I could not wait for the bastard film to finish. It is a mess with no rhythm or pacing. So many things happen in it, but it is all hammy jigged up bollocks, completely arbitrary nonsense.

This is the bit that bugs me, just because its a kids film, it doesn't mean the storyline has to be absolutely riddled with holes. They've got an essentially unlimited budget to write something that's good
