How long can Rafa last?

Last 10 seasons Ashley spent - £36m, £55m, £75m, £38m, £2m, £26m, £23m, £10m, £1.5m and£30m.
Apart from 2 of them seasons (£2m and £1.5m) all his managers have been well backed with countless millions to spend.

How do those gross spends stack up against other Premier League clubs?
And how much of those gross spends were funded by players sales or by investment from the owners etc.?

I know "Net spend" is a dirty phrase on here because it changes the rhetoric, but it's relevant. As there's no way Ashley would have sanctioned that kind of expense had he not already received it, similarly there's no way he's spend that on players if he wasn't assured he could make a profit in a few years.

It's all he ever does. Cheque book manager.#

Easy for him to divert blame onto Ashley as he knows the happy clappers at Newcastle will believe everything Rafa says. Any other manager would be criticised from "the Geordie nation", but not Rafa, they are petrified he'll fuck off
This is the main problem with the club at the moment, every single player (and the manager) has the ideal hiding place behind Ashley, rather than them take some responsibility for how shit we are. Whinging on about lack of money and a small squad. Bouremouth and Burnley have similar squads yet beat us, mainly because their managers decided to go for it at the right time

Swansea, Huddersfield and Burnley all won at the weekend, and they don't have significantly better squads than us

Walcott is quality, but not the kind of #10 we need. We need a creative player with a good eye for a pass and composure on the ball. I'd have liked Will Hughes in the summer to be honest.

Puncheon is a fine attacking midfielder, but not really what the 4-2-3-1 needs. If Jack Wilshere wasn't made of glass I'd love to see him at St James'

Plus we need a striker like we had in Demba Ba; strong, mobile, good in the air, good finisher, but not yet on the RADAR of the big sides.

If Wilshere wasn't made of glass you'd have no hope of him ever coming to st James tbh. Still think the Benitez love in is weird as fuck mind, git massive banners with him on when his record at Newcastle has been fairly mediocre

I think the sense was survival was the most important thing. That hasn't changed.

However, gambling that we'll survive with this squad, is stupid. If we somehow stayed up, there would be anger at Ashley and the board and rightly so. It's irresponsible.

But not Rafa :lol:

Newcastle last 10 years = £296m.
West Brom = £176m
Stoke = £194m

Newcastle net spend = £30m
West Brom = £66m
Stoke = £130m

Never thought i'd see the day on here but an actual sensible mag

Fuck the Net spend, it's like selling one BMW and buy 5 Ladas. What you have bought is shite compared to what you have sold. Deluded knuckle dragging gravy stained cowpats

Sissoko for 30m made a big diff to that spend too
Wijnaldum £25m, they got £10m for Florian f***ing Thauvin, Debuchy £12m and Cabaye £20m.
They made £50m profit on Sissoko, Wijnaldum and Cabaye. Ashley should be applauded for their net spend being so low but these thick fuckas can't see it.

Ashley is praised for keeping the finances in order and blamed for not spending ...... sometimes simultaneously.

Time will tell. I think Newcastle have the weakest squad in the Premier League. Not necessarily the weakest team though.

Down to selling players and not replacing them. I would blame Ashley.
