How long can Rafa last?

Is this your opinion or fact.
As for the Gayle bid who turned that down Rafa or Ashley.

Think it was Martin Hardy or George Caulkin reporting that the board wouldn't pay it.

The club turned down £15m but were said to be wanting £20m for Gayle

A number 10 dramatically changes our chances imo. A decent #10 would improve the performances of so many vital areas; striker, wide men, and the centre of the park too. They cost a lot, though.

Definitely need a striker, Gayle will score a few, but not enough, and doesn't hold the ball up at all.
Joselu works hard but doesn't score enough and doesn't hold the ball up well
Mitrovic holds the ball up and can score, but doesn't work hard enough and is a madhead.

I'd also like to see a specialised left back as Dummett is all we've got thus far.
All makes sense but without sounding snidey, will a No 1o with the quality you require be available in January and even then, be willing to risk a relegation battle? Do you personally have anyone in mind? I can't think of anyone off the top of my head.

Abraham rejected it because the club wouldn't pay him the million.

You don't pay the player a loan fee. You pay the club. Considering The Chronicles hatred of Ashley and subsequent 100 posts a day complaining about funds I'd assume they would have ran with a 'club wouldn't even pay 1 million' story opposed to an 'Abraham rejected us so he's pathetic' one.

Not according to What a Waster, apparently greedy Ashley wouldn't sanction a million quid for him.

He's just said he refused to sign for him because they refused to pay him the loan fee. This isn't all all surprising considering loan fees are paid to clubs and not players.

It was fulham who made the bid, i got them mixed up with leeds. Leeds merely enquired about a price

If you have a read of the daily mail link i put up it explains it better

One win from 10 - Rafa is doing a cracking job for him being labelled the greatest boss in the history of the universe. When will the Geordies realise he isn't that good?
This

By the way resident Mags if you want to have a serious conversation about Newcastle there is such a thing as Newcastle football forums, this is a place for us Sunderland fans to take the piss, so kindly piss off to your own boards.

Serious question to keep the thread football related.

Many Mags, on here, have said they'd be quite happy to finish 4th bottom.

As it stands you're doing better than that.

So if things pan out as you wished, without bringing in more players, would that me mission accomplished?

We have one article from the Mail (one of the most unreliable newspapers in the country) and one from The Chronicle who despite their agenda with Ashley, and never ending stories complaining about funds, have decided to write an article completely contradicting a story that would suit their agenda, and instead writing one saying the player rejected the move, before being totally unprofessional by calling him 'pathetic' for doing so.

Why didn't they just say Ashley refused to pay 1 million if that was the case? It would have suited their agenda perfectly and they wouldn't have had to publicly abuse a player for no reason (in your/The Mails opinion).

Honest answer is, I don't know.

So much depends on the takeover. If it goes through and Benitez is given £xxx to pump into the playing squad, then yes I think we can pay the going rate for a decent #10, plus the extra we'll need to throw his way to convince him to come.

If it doesn't go through, then no, we won't.

Staying up is the remit for this season ultimately so whether that is 4th bottom, 6th bottom or whatever it is mission accomplished.

I’d like to not be sweating on the last day though but rarely does finishing 4th bottom allow such a thing.

Stay in the league and look to make progress in the close season has to be the goal.

Ashley won't spend the money to get Rodgers away from Celtic
Rodgers won't want to leave Celtic for anything but an elite job
Rodgers wouldn't want to join Newcastle under Ashley

Ashley will be leaving so won't have to.

Rodgers will go somewhere he is financially backed and can achieve - an elite club won't touch him.

Only Newcastle fans hate Ashley. I'm sure Brendan doesn't care about the fans opinion of him,

Exactly, biggest fish in a puddle in Celtic, or Ashley's pennypinching Newcastle in the Premier League

Areet

Their next 4 games on paper are very tricky and I would not be surprised if they lost all 4 (but then again its these games that they sadly surprise me with a win or 2)

Everton (H)
Arsenal (A)
West Ham (A)
Man City (H)

If this takeover does not happen and he is not backed in Jan, I think he will walk to avoid another relegation on his Cv

I think the sense was survival was the most important thing. That hasn't changed.

However, gambling that we'll survive with this squad, is stupid. If we somehow stayed up, there would be anger at Ashley and the board and rightly so. It's irresponsible.

Dunno to be honest. Not very good journalism. I wish i could find the times article that Caulkin mentions it in. Maybe he just said it on his twitter feed.
