I think most of the footballing world acknowledge Ashley is not a good owner to have for an ambitious manager.

In the past decade are there many clubs who've a net profit? The club may have spent tens of millions, but without some bonkers sales, I guarantee you we wouldn't have. He's also failed to spend money on the training and youth facilities (you can't sell them for a profit, y'see) , and he's preferred free advertising for his tat-store to allowing other commercial partners to advertise in the ground.

So much depends on the takeover. If it goes through and Benitez is given £xxx to pump into the playing squad, then yes I think we can pay the going rate for a decent #10, plus the extra we'll need to throw his way to convince him to come.

Aye, I imagine its going to be a case of watch this space. If the takeover goes ahead, I could see Arsenal being willing to take someone's eyes out with Walcott but I'm not sure he'd be what you needed atm. Without the takeover, you're probably looking at the likes of Jason Puncheon or someone of that ilk which although he's probably better than any number 10 you currently have, I'm not too sure how well he'd be received by the fans.

Walcott is quality, but not the kind of #10 we need. We need a creative player with a good eye for a pass and composure on the ball. I'd have liked Will Hughes in the summer to be honest.

Puncheon is a fine attacking midfielder, but not really what the 4-2-3-1 needs. If Jack Wilshere wasn't made of glass I'd love to see him at St James'

Plus we need a striker like we had in Demba Ba; strong, mobile, good in the air, good finisher, but not yet on the RADAR of the big sides.
 
A quick comparison with McLaren in 2015/16 season shows he had 16points after 16 games, and they'd beaten Liverpool, drawn with Chelsea, got a point at Man Utd and beat Spurs at the Lane. The rumblings of discontent were evident then with McLaren, just shows how much They're prepared to tolerate shit perforformances and shift blame when it comes to Rafa.

Aye, don't we all. I don't know who Watford's scouts are but they seem to be very good at finding that kind of physical striker of late.

Unless he did know and just wanted the money of course.

We will be in the bottom 3 after the City game. Apart from Merino his signings last summer have been shite.

Last 10 seasons Ashley spent - £36m, £55m, £75m, £38m, £2m, £26m, £23m, £10m, £1.5m and£30m.
Apart from 2 of them seasons (£2m and £1.5m) all his managers have been well backed with countless millions to spend.
